Haley Reinhart versus The World

One more Bria vs. Haley (they've sung a lot of the same songs..Bria's idol is ZZ Ward, who is somewhat similar to Haley musically, so it's not that surprising) Two of my favorite studios from both of them. I always wished Haley's bridge made it into the studio (the little bird song.). Bria's version cracks me up. Haley and Adele sing the song in a very mature angry way. Like when someone is so angry that they speak quietly. Meanwhile, Bria Kelly sings the song like she's in the process of burning her former partner's belonging and keying said partner's car.

This is a fair contest....the first public performance of All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor vs the 1st public performance by Haley.

well, not really fair, in addition to Haley having a finely tuned vocal mastery, you've got Casey contributing more than strumming, there's palpable synergy in Haley and Casey's performance. She leads, he's her vocal foil, something she can weave her harmonies around. It's something she shares with no other musician in this part of her career, after 3 years, it's a finessed and spontaneous relationship that they have

On this part, she's scatt dueting with Casey's Bass, it's worth listening just to listen to the notes he plays on the bass

They get really into the zone by the middle of the song, their interaction while singing, off the cuff back and forth/banter....and this particular ballet of vocal inflections and tone and harmony changes is pretty dam spectacular IMO

On this part, they shift yet again, he goes very deep and she adopts a cartoony counter


(PS.. I could only stand to listen to less than a minute of the oringinal video, the tone of her voice hurts my ears... I have no problem identifying this song with Caley )

BTW... 200 + Million views... wouldn't it be something if people search the song, that they get their WTF moment with Haley?

Haley kicks that girl's butt vocally. It's not a contest. In fact, it looks like Megan is the one doing the cover.

That being said, it is funny that their performance style is similar. And I don't just mean how they perform the song..but even how they talk to the audience, how they talk to the musician on stage with them..If I had muted the video (When she started singing), I would have said she reminded me of Haley.

The Caley chemistry and experience really does show up with this song. Kind of reminds me of Jlo's comment after Moanin' -- sounds like they've been doing it all their lives.

I can't edit my comment but I'd have to say Tusk that you did a bang up job describing the performance by Haley and Casey. They have been performing together for a few years now so they have heated up that chemistry and now can ad lib very smoothly. It is still amazing that this is the first time they performed AATB together in public.

I don't think Haley would ever say she performed better than any of the Fab Four, she holds her influences in high regard, and doesn't have that kind of personality

I much prefer the 1st time Haley performed Helter Skelter, with just Dylan at Hotel Cafe, I thought that Mark and Casey joining in, looking like they hadn't rehearsed w/ her, the Room5 performance wasn't as tight as her Hotel Cafe performance with Just Dylan.
