Haley's on the bill and coming to New Orleans, so I expect her to have a somewhat prominent role. It might not pay to promote an American Idol to a rock and/or jazz audience though.

In other words, while Haley may enhance the performance, her presence might not boost sales outside her own fan base.

On Nov. 13 at the House of Blues, Irvin Mayfield's New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will debut a jazz tribute to the music of rock giants Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and Queen. The show will be the NOJO's only local gig this fall, with local rockers the Breton Sound and singer-songwriter Haley Reinhart opening for the 18-piece big band. The rock n'roll program is the tenth installment of Mayfield's New Orleans Jazz Institute Masters Series, via which UNO Jazz Studies professors are commissioned to create new music on a chosen theme.

Mayfield and friends plan to honor the month of Rocktober (and the spirit of Halloween) with a series of smaller gigs at Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse previewing the big show

at 8 p.m. on Tuesday nights in October. NOJO members and UNO Jazz Studies professors Steve Masakowski, Victor Atkins and Edward Petersen each get a night to sneak-preview their new work: Oct. 14 brings Masakowski's tribute to Zeppelin, Oct. 21 is Atkins' take on Nirvana, and on Oct. 28, Petersen puts his stamp on the sound of Queen.

Wow!! I'd call that a jackpot worth the trip Tusk! Patti & I joked about an impromptu 14 hour road trip to New Orleans Nov. 13th. although I think she was serious. Can't happen for me being in Colorado until the 9th and guests coming a week later.
