RE: Haley, Mark and Dylan Room5 10.28.2014
I've loved both of Caleys CMAR - but I especially love Casey's scatting in this (along with Haley's vocals). It's as if he is telling the story of their relationship gone awry. Everything's fine, hot, then he plays around and hurts her, he doesn't care, then the realization hits that he lost a great thing. I had the same story time reaction toward the end of Haley and Irvins original GBTC, he's a petulant child who gets spanked and put to bed at the end, musically, by Haley.

Good point.
I'd add that personally, no matter how much I like a lead name I expect the whole band to be up to the lead's caliber and take front stage at times.
Even when they're not soloing a bass or drums or lead guitar(or other melodic instrument) is as important as the singer for me....
... perhaps I should say I like bands with great peformers in them as much as I like individual great performers ?
One thing that would put me off is if a band member was playing a different style than the lead names... they all need to be in the same groove and the groove or lyrical feel, or flow or whatever has either got to symbiotically come together or have a director pushing it.
The lead singer or name might be the one that should be accommodated to most but they're not an island and can be far better with a band that understands them and augments their direction....
... I'm feeling all of that with these players (drummer, and of course casey on the bass but also ballas and the others)
They make Haley better and worse performers or those not accentuating her sweet spots make her worse and..
... well they all seem to keenly been on a rocking bluesy with a touch of jazz feeling that haley is about.
My other recent "new bands" I like... Grace Potter, ZZWard, and Lake Street Dive really highlight more than just the the lead singers on my favorite songs of each(my favorites aren't necessarily those that get radio play). ZZWard plays pianno and had a heavy hand in picking the techno beats and Grace Potter plays a mean guitar in her own right so they have more than one of the spoons in the pot.
I hope Haley can keep working with this more full group of performers (I think having a drummer really helps) and they can have enough practice time together to continue to develop a "sound" . I know that is expensive to hope for on a tour though...easy to grab people on an off night when they're living in the same town.

RE: Haley, Mark and Dylan Room5 10.28.2014
I thought Hotel Cafe was the best show I'd been to....*
But I think this 10 song set, with all the combinations of performers, including a co-writer appearance to debut their new songs. Along with solid performances of known songs, we also got a Killer cover of a song hardly anyone's heard of (22k views on the Original's VEVO), and a FANTASTIC Caley moment with All About That Bass. (That doesn't even include the unexpected and playful twist on "Cry Me a River" )
When "Helter Skelter" is listed on the bottom half of a 10 set list of my favorite performances of the night, you KNOW that was a soon to not be forgotten moment, you've just experienced
I'm really grateful to have been there to see it. There was so much to love about the entire thing
*BGDays is another category, that was a Concert Event, Lollapalooza, a signature event at the start of Haley's career, and the Private Parties?... well, nothing compares with those, especially the last one with Harry and Keith

RE: Haley, Mark and Dylan Room5 10.28.2014
As I've posted on twitter--thx so much for the videos and recaps Tusk and Rachel. Without you guys--those of us in the east would be having a very long dry spell.
I loved Haley's performance at Room 5. Her voice does so many things and it's just so effortless. Very remarkable talent.
AATB was so cool. A sexy, jazzy take on it. I went to listen to the original when I read Haley sang in in the shower. I did sit through the vid--but I just thought it ok. I loved the Caley spin. I do like the song "Cry me a River" I thought Caley did a very cool take on it. I wonder if that just happened on stage--or pre-planned. You never know with those two. Again, their chemistry--very compelling. I love the way they look at each other sometimes while they're performing. Lots of admiration for each other's talent. It's like they are musically psychic about each other and challenge each other at the same time. Whatever it is--I never grow tired of those two together.
IA with Tusk--"Pathetic" was something else. I could not sit through the original--but loved Haley's take.
As far as Mark Ballas--I haven't made my mind up about him. I think he's a very talented dancer and a good musician/performer. However, I was somewhat distracted by some of his stuff on stage. At first I thought--he's trying to draw attention to himself and away from Haley. I was kind of pissed off. Of course, that could just be the way he is all the time. And it could be his dancing background & all that too. I don't know. Something about him bothers me a bit.
I think it was last year or so, Derek's sister was a guest judge on DWTS. When Mark and his partner were being judged--she gave props to his partner for standing out in the routine when dancing with Mark. She implied that his dances were all about him--or something like that. He was pissed lol. I watch the show sometimes--but I saw this on MJs blog. I thought it could be a publicity stunt--maybe it was.
At the last Rm 5 show in Aug--the vids showed that Casey came outside afterwards and started singing as he has often done. Haley joined him after a bit. When Mark came out--the videos seemed to be all about him. Maybe it was because he was doing HTRJ--a song that Caley recorded. It just put me off some.

RE: Haley, Mark and Dylan Room5 10.28.2014
I didn't mind Mark, then again, Haley gets the majority of my attention on Stage, so there's that.
A type personalities can't help but be A type personalities. He probably drew the most people in the audience to that show, so he probably felt he should give them something. Also, his parents were there sitting next to his current DWTS partner, Sadie from Duck Dynasty, right in the front center of the stage. I noticed alot of his solo set, he directed his focus in that general direction, I think he was acting for his fans.
I noticed Dylan's showmanship/skill on guitar over anything Mark related other than the fact that Mark entranced probably 95% of the women in that room, the look on their faces as he sang, playing with their hair.... I can't deny he has huge charisma over women

I agreed with what you said, but after reading some other comments I have softened a bit. I think Mark is a true performer, I applaud the enthusiasm but I admit I am distracted by it. Some like over the top, others not so much. Mark is used to drama and making a statement with his moves. Same goes for Casey in my opinion, while I respect his musical ability - he is an uberly talented musician I find him distracting. I like the way he plays his instruments, not his singing so much. Kudos to both for putting themselves out there, both very talented...

RE: Haley, Mark and Dylan Room5 10.28.2014
Tusk--
He was playing with the ladies hair? Maybe he stole that bit from Casey's from WOMS performances. I don't know--I'm on the fence with him. Very happy that Haley is getting to draw more attention from their association. But, I don't konw--guess I will reserve judgement.
I'm pretty sure his partner is just a teen. I guess you don't have to be 21 to get in if you are a celeb. haha
I do love Dylan. Very good guitar player and seems like a terrific guy.
So glad that Casey's parents were on twitter to see your posts! I was hoping they would see them. I couldn't believe Pam mentioned the Orioles in Casey's last Stageit. I wasn't aware she was on there that much.
Riley--
Yeah--but I don't think Casey is distracting when he's playing with Haley. In fact, I don't recall him ever trying to steal the spotlight from her or upstage her. I think he always lets her shine.
I don't care if Mark is dramatic when it's his songs and about him. But, when it's someone else's song--then it bothers me. Especially, if it's Haley or casey for that matter.
(sorry i don't double know how to do double quotes I screw it up and get so frustrated)
