"Better" is kind of like "Liar" to me. It's a good song, but I don't know that it would be one that I'd choose for a single.

Of course, I don't get to make those sort of decisions..and Haley should go with her gut.

Personally, I'm really hoping that "Listen" and "Love Worth Fighting For" makes the EP.

Probably I'm the only one thinking this, but I am kinda of surprised "Better" seems to be the song that Haley & Ole are hinting at for the EP. I like it, but I don't love it. IMO it doesn't showcases Haley's voice like other songs - hopefully the studio versions takes it to a new level, which is very possible. (That said, if Better becomes her first big hit off the EP, I'm absolutely thrilled)

And repetition is what you're going to get with a blues format, folks.

Not always, but yes fairly often, and it's not my favorite player in that genre, or in Haleys writing. I find Haley to be borderline perfect for my tastes, that would be the only thing I'd change about her song writing.

I think I prefer Good or Bad now. It gets stuck in my head quite easily so it would probably be radio friendly.

We've all been waiting for some song breaking through somehow eventually, but that is EP territory... (My worst nightmare: the EP coming out, being acclaimed by inside music lovers, but not rippling anything elsewhere.

I don't know if songs from the EP will find radio play or even if Ole is giving that much serous thought given their experience seems to be in placements and piped music. My modest hope is that the EP is successful enough by their standards that they will continue to back Haley's creative endeavors.

Yup I believe the vehicle is media distribution, Radio plays is clinging to relevancy and the number of digital music services would be a good idea to look at a different revenue stream..

placement and distribution are Ole strengths... I'd prefer they go with their strengths rather than waste their resources on a shrinking and outdated media

I think a good goal for the EP is it creates enough interest and buzz to earn a full LP, TV appearance or two, American Idol would be nice... A tour would need financing too, popular enough to fund a small tour hopefully increasing interest would be nice too ( am I asking too much )

PS...this is not to say they shouldn't invest in radio airplay, just they don't need to rely on it as a measure for success :/

For "Free," Haley did a promo tour where she performed at radio stations. In retrospect, that may have been more about the label solidifying their relationship with the stations than promoting the album.

Book a couple of more flights, and a couple more rooms - and some real venues -- and you would have a real tour.

Now, that might not be feasible given the ticket sales for an unknown artist. But coming off of Idol back in the day? It might have worked if they coupled radio station interviews in advance to promote the event.

If it enjoyed only modest success, it might not cost them more than the more limited radio-station tour.

In some of our thoughts here we are, undestandably, mixing a lot of things together, because of course they are interconnected. But I think we might distinguish four aspects that are not really the same:
1. Haley as her own artist (LU, EP etc. ... for the enjoyment of her as a musically creative person who can also perform their own material top class)
2. Haley as a great singer (NOJO, PMJ, much of Caley ... just for the entjoyment of a great voice, great singer, great interpretations ... singing great songs by others)
3. Making a living, being a artist to pay the bills (placements, ads, Cancun etc.)
4. Haley as an artist in more than music (acting, voice-over, artistic video shoots ...)

Each of these has their particular aspects and tie-ins. Right now we are hoping that (2) might help with (1), but we're not certain. Certainly (3) is a requirement to get (1) going big-time (e.g. a self-managed tour), and (4) helps with (3) perhaps.

Down the road it should all mesh, and my impression is that Haley is not just randomly grabbing at opportunities that happen to come by her through acquaintances and people she meets, but that - while of course much happens through her networks and circles, as these things do happen - she is very conscious of where she wants to go and how she wants to go about it. I don't think she is mainly reacting opportunistically to what becomes available, which I think many others out there do, but is using the opportunities as part of her "plan for herself".
