Interesting that Tori Kelly who is getting all this push from her label, media outlets like Billboard Magazine, prime appearances on the TV shows including the Grammys and a Grammy Nomination has no Top 50 hits to date (current song "Hollow" is at 68) while Haley's CHFIL is climbing steadily into the Top 25 (AC format) via a viral video but no CD, no label and no tour.
One wonders if Haley ever got this kind of Tori Kelly push where she might end up....

I actually prefer CDs. I have a large collection. I feel like they have better sound when you play them on a stereo. I would prefer Haley release it as a CD. Even if she did, I would buy a second copy in digital as well.

Don't forget, a MAJOR factor of Season 9 was that Simon was on his way out, he couldn't care less, probably contributing to S9 being considered THE worst of all 15 seasons among many. I'm happy that Haley was part of Season 10 among a pool of very talented finalists that made the drama of the season even more captivating. (and actually contributing Idol getting a resurgence in viewership and popularity, then downhill again after Season 12)
I think Simon deliberately sunk Season 9
I bet where she is now, Tori would concur w/ Haley about not making Season 9:

Tori actually opted out of the live shows because Simon had made it clear that he wasn't a fan of her voice and she didn't want to get stuck in the contract. Another smart, brilliantly talented woman.
It is just sad that a lot of talent signed up for that season..and we got Lee as a winner. Katie Smith is another finalist that Simon bussed, who is starting to break out (although more as an actress..) And Katelyn Epperly is more of an acoustic artist, but she sings my favorite version of The Scientist, ever. I'm also pretty sure Season 9 is the season Mary Lambert tried out for, but didn't make it. And she's a grammy winner now.
It's just a wonderfully talented mix of female artists that makes a "Could have been.." season.
But as you say, everything happens for a reason. Tori clearly made the best decision for herself. From what I've read, Katie got the "bite" and worked her butt off in LA for her break. Mary was always more of a singer-song writer, and I don't think Idol really showcases that talent, and I doubt she gets the grammy opportunity after being on the show (and I doubt the AI base would have appreciated her), and obviously Haley is starting to break out too. (And personally, I don't think Ole happens without Season 10, because Ole was very clearly a Steven Tyler connection.)
But still...that's a lot of successful and talented people to have tried out for AI and either gotten bussed during the live shows or not even make it there.
I've got a dream scenario where Haley joins Capitol and we have a blockbuster tour with Tori and Mary Lambert.
