As to Tusk's and John's discussion above about Haley going for a younger audience, I think Haley needs to follow her heart. I do think she'll be more 'respected' in the industry, get more 'buzz', and have better reviews for the album by the mainstream media (if that matters at all) if she is blazing new ground for her sound. And not giving us pure Rock, or Blues, or Jazz, etc. I think Listen Up did that to some degree.

I agree she needs to follow her heart and make good songs. I put up the Adele article because it is about the fact that she is blowing the doors off the recording industry by doing her own thing. Haley can do that too.

I think it's great that Haley can appeal to people of all ages -- like the Beatles, or Adele as a more contemporary artist. Her classic rock and jazz leanings pull older fans, but younger ones come too.

I don't agree, the bullet points refer to people from the 'industry' who promise great reward for a 'nominal fee' while his conclusion, as I understand it, is the organic growth of your fan base and supporters. One group you pay and is trying to take advantage, the other group you earn and are your supporters

I really only posted it because I thought about how many offers Haley must've had to consider during her 'down time'... all those calls for her to go out and 'gig' as much as possible. I can totally see the former group, taking advantage of someone desperate to get their name out by performing as much as they are able.

That Haley seems to have been patient in considering her options, making moves when she felt the time is right, possibly meant that she was made aware of these traps and temptations that had to be coming her way by opportunists

I think Show Me Your Moves was a great song...but for commercials.

I am of the belief that no amount of promoting that song would have made it a pop hit. As a pop hit material, it just wasn't right.

But I do agree that Creep, which did hit a chord with people could maybe get even more popular with some promoting.. the cover might even get radio play ... although it doesn't fit neatly into any radio stations mix.

TV jingles is just as important of a artistic skill as pop music in my opinion. That Chase ad is being played many more times a day and being heard by many more people than the PMJ Creep and radio play of fallin in love... But hey, I'm a egalitarian sort in lots of ways
...I figure a mechanic is every-bit the career equal of a tax accountant despite different amounts of grease under the fingernails.

Haley's listen up album had 4 songs that got used in many places.. TV and malls etc . That was pretty impressive. She has proven a few times over that she's good at writing and singing in a style well suited for tracking rights.

Hopefully the deal Haley struck for SMYM was a lucrative one. The mega-super duper extreme range of how much you can get paid for tracking rights is crazy. She might one day have a song she writes that gets played a tenth as much as the chase ad has run but makes her 100 times as much due to negotiating position at the time etc.

There is a lot of career "longevity" to building a reputation and working relationships. I love the way Haley uses that "longevity" word.. she's got real business sense.

but as I started,
If people are hearing the music and it's putting them in a good mood.. the art is reaching people just as much as if they knew who's voice it was they were listening to or of they chose to listen to it on their own

It's great that Haley has had been able to generate revenues in diverse ways. That is good business sense and bodes well for longevity. She can weather a lot of the changes in the music industry. And her song writing skills should continue to improve as she works at the craft and finds the right cowriters.

Other than this, I am thinking that Lover Girl or Knock Me Out may make appearances on the the album since they were in the running back when she was still trying to narrow songs for the EP. I am also thinking that she may also include some of the other covers that she has been performing frequently at venues on the radio tour, like Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay and Can't Find My Way Home.

Could she maybe end up including Show Me Your Moves after all since it will be getting a little DWTS promotion?

I wrote it with my dear friends Maria Marcus & Anders Grahn at a writing camp in Santorini, Greece - specifically for this James Cameron doc. on climate change and other environmental world issues.

Very cool to see it come to fruition some years later. I believe everything we want has the potential to grow & succeed.. Especially when we put our best foot forward.
