Thx

, as a matter of fact... it was an investment I didn't know I was making.....
Other than Haley's performances at Carnegie Hall, This song truly did stick out for me. It was an obvious choice if I were going to post a non Haley song from that show. The problem was it was a looooong song, 10 minutes (Including Irvin's dedication). What was I going to do visually for that much time? So I did some photoshopping of found images, which meant I started learning more and more about Katrina, and the circumstances surrounding the death of Irvin's Father. Which then lead to the creation of the trumpet named after the street where his Father's body was found.
Suddenly, I had a story to tell. While the beginning of the song was somber intoning the tragedy of Katrina, the second half of the song was more upbeat, hopeful... the story practically wrote itself, the mourning for the Father to the creation and inscription on the Trumpet dedicating it to his Father. It was Irvin's magical item, his call to arms as it were. ( Big Fan of Campbell's "The Hero's Journey)
It was the story of Death then Rebirth, turning tragedy to inspiration, which was the message/tenor of the song
Anyway, cut to the Wednesday at Irvin's PlayHouse, at the break after his first set, I got to talking to Irvin, I told him about MHSRIP, how the first time I heard it at Carnegie, it made such an impact on me leading me to make the video which lead me to learning about his Father and the Elysian trumpet.
He raised one eyebrow, "That was You?" He had retweeted that video before. When NOJO performed in Russia, I had a bump of Russian viewers, they had searched the song out because it was performed on a Russian TV show (video's been taken down) I think knowing that about me, that even though I was Haley's fan, I had something of a knowledge about him, bothered to do some research.... I think that maybe went a long way to form his opinion and comfort level of me possibly influencing what was to happen the rest of my time in NOLA
It's all connected somehow, I'm just enjoying the ride
