RE: Postmodern Jukebox
(08-06-2015, 03:59 PM)john Wrote: The new PMJ video, My Heart Will Go On ft. Mykal Kilgore was arranged & produced by Scott Bradlee. But Todd Schroeder is on piano. We have discussed Scottless PMJ ensembles touring; they have done single shows that way and now it moves into the video realm.
This song was composed by James Horner, a Hollywood icon, who tragically died in a plane crash on June 22, the day before the PMJ concert in LA at Club Nokia. I was thinking that Scott or someone in the cast might have paid homage to Horner, or possibly Dick Van Patten (Eight is Enough), who died earlier in the day on June 23. I was surprised that there were no LA unique musical tributes at that performance, either by Scott in his piano mashup or by any of the singers during their finale turns, in lieu of their standard bits. It might have been nice.
One amusing tidbit about this new release - I was quickly going through some of the comments when it occurred to me that no doubt Aubrey Logan wouldn't be commenting on this one when - boom! - there was a comment from Aubrey!

Lfool....14,929/day (1,484,979)
Creep...35,293/day (8,010,198)

IKAG..17,267/day (586,951)
BadR..21,644/day (3,073,051)
AATB..11,495/day (13,404,634)
Numbers from the past week (I was half an hour late so these are as of 5:30 PDT):
Oops....23,810/day (1,482,450)
Lfool....13,763/day (1,484,979)
Creep...34,011/day (8,248,274)
AATB...35,093/day (6,287,965)
Habits..13,758/day (2,956,086)
IKAG..14,832/day (690,779)
BadR..22,360/day (3,229,573)
AATB(kd)..10,218/day (13,476,158)
Biggest surprise of the week is that AATB-Euro version had more views than Creep. The views were up a little for OIDIA this week vs. last. No erosion there. Habits had an up week, too.
Taken together, PMJ videos featuring Haley picked up 120,435 views per day this week, which is close to the 121,543 per day last week. Her videos have been viewed more than 20 million times in total. And assuming SNA is released next week everything will get juiced up again.
Based on views how does Creep compare to the fastest PMJ video to reach 10 million, AATB ft. Kate Davis? This 12/15/2014 Huffpo article http://www.huffingtonpost.com/roxane-ass...21018.html indicates that AATB had received "more than 8.3 million views" at that time. The video was released on Sep 5, just over 3 months earlier. Creep was released Apr 7, four months ago, and has more than 8.2 million views. So, it looks like the KD version of AATB is still the champ. That said, I think the wind was at its back given the broad popularity of the Megham Trainor original, which was still pretty new and was getting a lot of airplay last fall. (Also recall that the AATB Euro version got more views than Creep this week.) Creep is a great song, but an old song that has been covered a lot in the past, including by PMJ, that Haley rejuvenated.

(08-07-2015, 12:20 PM)john Wrote: Boy, the top 100 on the jazz chart really bounces around on a day to day basis. I imagine relatively small numbers of sales can have a big impact. Now PMJ hs 26 videos in the top 100. I was reading the Nielsen US report for 2014 and Jazz is just about at the bottom sales with only 1.2 % and only 3% on demand streaming. http://www.nielsen.com/content/dam/corpo...ort-us.pdf So it would make sense that even meager sales could easily affect the charts. What surprised me in the report is who made the top global list for social/web engagement – global Facebook likes, global twitter followers and global Wikipedia searches (Jennifer Lopez of all people made the list). Facebook likes and video streaming and internet searches does play a part in some way. Meghan Trainor has the top spot in 2014 with AATB for video on demand. PMJ currently has two albums on the top 25 Billboard Jazz chart and both have AATB on them - hmmm.

RE: Postmodern Jukebox
From Scott's FB

There's a great profile about Postmodern Jukebox on the main page of Yahoo Music right now - check it out! I probably won't get us invited on any reality shows soon, thanks to this interview.
Also, Yahoo articles are notorious for having the most ridiculous haters in the comment section, and so far, not *one* person has accused us of "destroying America," so I'd say it's a success!

Are you listening to @PMJofficial? If not, you should be: http://yhoo.it/1h36E5S
Lyndsey links to 11 PMJ videos and it looks like they are generating some traffic in the PMJ direction. She focuses more than I would like on the reality singing show connection and especially Scott's complaints about not getting credit, but it is under the "Reality Rocks" section so that makes sense. Overall it is a solid piece for PMJ and it should get picked up on by other outlets.
The comments at Yahoo do get sketchy at times, but there are lots of positive ones:
Quote:They are truly great musicians. I'm glad they are getting some recognition for their talents. It is not easy to do arrangements, yet they take the challenge and make it happen.

Quote:We saw them in concert in Milwaukee. Just as advertised! Great musicians, very engaging, great crowd. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat!
Quote:I could tell just by the initial picture for this article that it was Haley Reinhart! I loved her on American Idol and actually stopped watching when she didn't make it. She is so amazing, and so very talented. These artists are so underrated! Such power and voice. Love this
Quote:This is the first I have heard of these artists. I am looking forward to watching their videos, since I am a jazz fan. It will probably be even more enjoyable for me since I wouldn't recognize Beyonce' or any of the other pop stars if I ran into them, so I will just listen with a fresh ear. Startin' with, "It's All About the Bass"...love it, love it.
