I expect that the lyrics suppress some of the popularity of the song somewhat. I don't think it hurts Haley at all though. It is an earworm and Haley does a lovely job with it. It has great replayability for those who like it.

Ariana Savalas is an American jazz vocalist, songwriter, and actress. She is the daughter of film and TV actor, Telly Savalas.

In 1977 during the last season of Kojak, (Telly Savalas) met Julie Hovland, a travel agent from Minnesota. They were married in 1984 and had two children together, Christian and Ariana.

Her father died a couple of weeks after her 7th birthday.

(Ariana) Savalas was born in Los Angeles but was raised in Minnesota following her father's death. She studied Shakespeare and acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and is a member of Playhouse West, a repertory theater directed by Jeff Goldblum. Before turning to jazz, Savalas toured and recorded in Europe as a pop singer in her teens with European producer Jack White.

Savalas began her music career in Los Angeles as a singer/songwriter playing venues on the Sunset Strip such as the Whisky a Go-Go and Hard Rock Cafe before quickly transitioning into jazz. Her first jazz EP, "Sophisticated Lady", is a combination of Savalas' original compositions as well as two standards from the Great American Songbook, including the song Sophisticated Lady by Duke Ellington, Mitchell Parish, and Irving Mills which she named the record after.

Ariana has two videos with PMJ, the first was put out in June. She is a logical choice given her style.

I read an interview with her. There is somewhat of a true story behind the lyrics, but she says the guy in the relationship had it worse than she did. Tove Lo also said she didn't pick up daddies on the playground, but when she was 17 she dated an older man who had a son who was 6.

The producers apparently attached a camera to her and recorded while she actually partied. So when they told her to cry while on the toilet, she easily did because she was wasted and exhausted.

Even with it's stark lyrics, I like the song

I don't mind the lyrics, it's the drunken doped-up images in the video they made and has been viewed 142 million times that bothers me. It's saying it's OK to nearly kill yourself over a relationship that didn't work. Stupid message for the fragile youth that are the most likely main viewers. Haley's version doesn't obviously imply that. That said it is hard for me to make it stop playing over & over again in my mind so it is a catchy tune.
