"new" fans obviously don't 'know' PMJ like we do.... To say they 'should' is to assume alot about 'new' fans

either way, it's not my opinion that matters, the point is there are people who will be disappointed because of the way Scott has scheduled for these shows so far in advance, while at the same time waiting until 'the last minute' to announce the lineup increases the chance for disappointment.

In the long run it might not matter, maybe Scott has built a brand strong enough to withstand flashback from an ever changing lineup as well as a 'second version' and their fans will be fine with it...

The point is, In my opinion the lineups do matter, scheduling the shows so far in advance creates instances where a fan will invest in something too far in advance for fear of a sold out show, to be disappointed at the eventual line up they get.

Whether they should know better doesn't change the fact that the way it's been set up will surely disappoint a lot of fans whether they are aware of the fluidity of the lineup change of a PMJ show or not

Add to that a 2nd troupe calling itself PMJ ..... one that may not even include Scott himself... they should assume Scott might not be there too and be all right that they are seeing the 'substitute' PMJ?

This is not only about Haley's fans, it's also about Morgan's fans, Robin's fans, even the Puddles' fans... to say this is only an affliction of fans of Haley's is actually not accurate

Miguel, are you up to giving us a little review or write up on the show in Dallas?

I read a review before the show that noted the venue's poor sight lines and acoustics.

The sight lines are terrible. The stage is at least 1-2 feet too low, making all but the tallest patrons unable to see the band.

The sound is terrible. Embarrassingly terrible...if you get close enough to see the band, you will not be able to hear the vocals.

So I didn't go.

JK. I did see the show, but found the comments about the venue to be true. I went with a friend and we took the train to a stop about two blocks away. While on the train, I realized I left my audio recorder at home. We arrived about 15 minutes after the show was scheduled to start, just before it actually began.

The place was packed and the entrance was near the stage, so we took up residence to the right side of it.

From the venue review:

If you are just interested in seeing the band up close go early and get close to the stage, but the sound will almost be unrecognizable.

I was positioned close to a brick wall and next to a metal support beam. The tap dancer was maybe five feet away, but all I could see from my vantage point were her arms and legs occasionally extending beyond the wall. My view of the three microphones on the stage was frequently obscured by the moving heads of audience members.

I had purchased a new camcorder to use at the show, so I actually watched much of it by looking up at the camcorder as I held it above my head and in front of the pole.


It's recorded in 1080, so change the YouTube settings to HD and watch it full screen to improve the quality of your viewing experience.

About 3/4 of the way through the show, we moved toward the rear of the room on the right side.

From the venue review:

If you are interested in getting the best (of the bad) sound, try standing on the floor all the way to the back in the middle on either side of the mixer board. Or try standing backed up to the gate that separates the mixer board from the floor.

We didn't go that far back as it was thick with people, and we weren't in the center, but the sound was better.

Seems like Collin was positioned in a good spot to record audio. From the venue review:

You can also try to stand right next to the stage on the left side where the walkway to the bathroom is located. In this spot you actually hear the band’s monitors more than the PA.

I'll post more video later. I haven't had much sleep because we watched the video footage after the show and I then had to get to work early to complete a project before a morning client call.

Many of the recordings don't feature full performances due to operator error as I was not familiar with the camera.

Hi Tusk. It sounds better on video than in person. The camcorder must have a directional mic. There were times my friend was speaking or singing along behind me and I don't really hear him on the recording.

^They can turn their devices and see Haley on a grander scale than if the videos were simply reoriented. I sat my laptop on its side last night to watch.

I was thinking, a way to go around having clips and posting them individually, you could just make an all in one compilation video. That's how I was able to use the partial clips of Maps and other video partials from the UK that I had.

Either way, any thoughts about the production, the song set, crowd energy and response?

Collin said the cast came out to mingle after the show, did you and your friend hang around for that?

My friend took in more of the show because he's taller and wasn't filming. He was quite taken by Ariana's role as the sexy vamp. And her whistling. He thought Haley was more polished as a singer than the others and observed she had a commanding/motherly presence that belied her years when she was watching them perform. He felt Casey brought energy and fun to the stage. Watching a video beforehand, he thought the tap dancing was unnecessary but came away with a new appreciation for it in a live setting.



We waited for a little bit after the show but were concerned with catching a train back late on a Sunday night. If it had been a Friday or Saturday, or we had driven, we would have made more of an attempt. I was thinking we would have to catch them between the bus and the venue and I didn't know where that would be.

As much as I bagged on my first major "Haley" purchase (I bought it to record Haley at my first meeting with her in Spokane), and almost gave it away to my Mom (fortunately, I didn't or else the UK videos might have been lesser).... This might be the most important feature of all my cameras.

As much as I like the resolution of the DSLR I bought, ultimately, it means nothing if the sound is distorted. (not that the DSLR's mic was that bad, but it's too bulky and 'professional' to get past most music venues without drawing attention, whereas the camcorder is small and fits in the palm of my hand)

The directional mic in my camcorder was a saving grace for both my Lollapalooza and UK vids.

I shall never bag on the camera again, because in the case of recording a Haley show, the sound will always take precedence over the video

Those are pretty nice shots of Haley, Miguel! Thanks for fighting through the challenges of the venue! Doesn't sound as if it was ideal, indeed ... I hope you'll manage to catch up with some sleep eventually!

Now here'd be a really tough challenge: splicing a video together from numerous performances of the same song in chronological order to celebrate her tour. That would be something. Probably almost impossible to pull off with a decent outcome. I guess it'll have to remain a 'mind video'!
