RE: 2015 PMJ North American Tour
Here's a fairly lengthy review of the Mesa show. Haley tidbits are included below.
Quote:Phoenix New Times: Why a Metalhead Loved the Pop Songs at Postmodern Jukebox
By Lauren Wise
...
Between the emcee announcing different vocalists and the band, other songs included Savalas, Cook, and Haley Reinhart rocking Ellie Goulding’s “Burn” to choreography; Cook singing Plain White T’s’ “Hey There Delilah” with her ukulele and accordion; ad Reinhart’s vampy, sex kitten rendition of Brittany Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again.”
...
One of the songs that original got my attention, when I first heard Postmodern Jukebox, was the torch-like cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.” It’s a stunner, and has almost 10 million views on YouTube. Haley Reinhart executed the song perfectly, bending all the way over to draw out the wails and high notes.

RE: 2015 PMJ North American Tour
Attended the PMJ tour stop in Sacramento last night. I must say that I was very impressed by Haley, but not in the way you might be thinking. First off, the show was a blast. My wife, who knew very little about PMJ beforehand, really enjoyed herself (and we were very impressed by all the other folks who dressed up in period clothes). Of coursre, my wife knew Haley was going to sing, but she has always viewed my fandom as a bit odd-- saying I have a "crush" on Haley (who is bascially the same age as our daughter). Okay, I'll take that. Hehe.
Last night was the first time I'd heard Haley sing live since the Idol Tour (when I dragged my entire family to the show). For whatever reason, the planets never aligned for me until last night. I was once in Vegas when Haley was there, but had a prior commitment. I was flying home from a family vacation in Italy when Haley sang with PMJ in SF and Oakland last summer. And I've traveled many times since Idol to visit my daughter in LA, but could never catch Haley there.
Unfortunately, at the sold-out show last night they didn't sell VIP tickets. It was a Alzheimer's charity event, and VIP access was only provided to large doners and business that paid substantially for it. Bummer!
I was a bit worried going in how Haley's activities earlier in the day-- singing at several events and giving a number of interviews for local radio stations-- would impact her voice for the show. To be honest, her voice DID sound a bit more 'hoarse' (if that is the right word) than usual, and I thought she could be worried about going for the high notes. She was the last to sing on the finale Christmas group song, and her voice even cracked a bit at the very last note. She wasn't featured that much on the group numbers-- other than AATB-- which was a bit disappointing.
Personally I think a fair number of folks attended the show primarily to hear Haley sing, judging by the reaction to her during introductions and in response to solos. My guess is she might know this and really wanted to deliver. Her rendition of OOPS was awesome, and she went for the really high notes at the end (even when she probably shouldn't have). CREEP was the highlight of the show for me (and I think a lot of other people). She looked gorgeous in a black gown. There was quite a bit of unsolicited 'singing along' by the crowd, and Haley held NOTHING back. I've never seen (on video) a more emphatic and powerful performance (while she was singing, I was actually worried she might hurt her voice). The audience reaction to CREEP was by far the loudest of the evening, and she received a standing ovation from a large portion of the crowd.
What really impressed me about Haley last night is that on a night when she probably didn't have her 'A Voice', she really delivered. She's a TRUE performer. Of course, there was a lot of great entertainment last night, but if anybody paid all that money to hear Haley sing just two songs, then they probably walked out of the theater thinking (like me) that it was TOTALLY worth it.

Speaking as someone who's seen Haley perform many times (lost count) people have always questioned the 'wear' on her voice. It's the nature of having a 'raspy' voice. Haley has a regimen she keeps to take care of her voice. It could be that she might be 'under the weather', but it also could be the difference between hearing her live as opposed to on TV or over the internet.
Morgan told me that many of the cast were 'under the weather' during most of their tour in Australia, a result of traveling and being in confined spaces with people over an extended time, but you would've never known it from the performances we saw on Youtube
She didn't sing 7 Nation Army in San Diego, but sounded strong on Creep and Ooops. If anything, it's possible that Scott/Todd/PMJ are preparing for Haley to have to put more efforts to take advantage of the opportunities CHFIL is bringing. It's not coincidence that there's been an uptick of new vocalists being introduced into the PMJ roster. (Also no surprise that some are x-Idols, who bring along with them in-built fan bases)
PMJ is and has been a 'rotating' cast situation, they've posted about it, but fans will always want to see their favorites. PMJ offers exposure and opportunity which the vocalists would be wise to take advantage of when it comes along. Scott, also wisely, has to prepare for that contingency so that PMJ can move forward and grow.
I think we know that Haley or any PMJ singer would not be w/ PMJ 'forever'. It's one of the realities of success, like the VIP changes. "Free" access to the cast after the show also devalued the VIP experience. Why pay for it if you can get it for free? Realistically, as PMJ grew, that was never going to last forever. Similarly, if a PMJ vocalist popularity grows, they would also 'out' grow PMJ .... it's just reality
