John, that was interesting -- well, "interesting" isn't really the right word. It's appalling, but not at all shocking --which in itself, is appalling.

However, here's a comment from someone regarding the most recent Reality Check that speaks/reveals why the subject of the above video can happen and be considered "acceptable" :

almost none of the current successful artists today is a great singer. qassim is very young, he is a musician, he plays multiple instruments, he is handsome, he is a wonderful dancer trained in various forms of dance, he sings fast songs that are usually played live with playback. the pitch problems can be autotuned, the dance and charisma are not easy to find. if he fixes his pitch he is prob the only one in this competition with a chance for stardom. and u know what, i don’t give a damn about stardom, most of the artists i love are not top 40, but when i watch tv i want to be entertained so for me, qassim is number 1 in this competition. i only wish he would have better instruction in regard to his dance and song production.

I added the emphasis regarding "autotune." As long as people operate as though this is "SOP" (and it appears that there are), it will be very difficult to combat the (ugh) trend...

rBritany Spears has a 2 year residency in Vegas and all her songs are lip synced at least she isn't Milly vanilly but she still has a good gig going on and her fans know she is faking it but still dig her and, pay good money to see hereWTF, auto tune is for singers who cant sing for shit HALEY still that virgin voice that hasn't bin corrupted by the Machine.So called artest who lip sync or have there voice auto tuned are terrorist( for lack of a better word) to the music industry

As an almost life long Britney fan...I can say I think people make a mistake when they consider her a musician..She's not. She had a hand in writing great songs. She's got a decent voice that's distinct. But really, she's an entertainer. Going to her concerts was going to a "Show." And in her prime, she was damn good at it.

That being said, a majority of those leaked audios are fake or were recorded when she was simply singing along with the track but actually focused on her dancing (which is her concert.). There's plenty of instances of her clearly singing live. (And the irony here, of course, is that her label ruined her voice. )

Of course, most of her songs now are pretty much impossible to sing live.
