Penny Lane was the name of Kate Hudson's character in the Cameron Crowe directed movie "Almost Famous". She basically played a groupie or "Band Aid" who followed the band around on tour.

Cameron Crowe made his name as a lucky 16 year old hired to write for the Rolling Stone Magazine, was able to interview bands such as the Allman Brothers, The Eagles and Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, David Bowie among others. He's also prolific in the movie industry having written the scripts for Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous.

You think this guy was too lucky? He also married Nancy Wilson, one half of the Hall of Fame Band, Heart (now divorced)
