RE: The Better Era
Great mention of Haley and her recent success in this Canadien Music Newsletter. Here is link to the article, and below is the text mentioning Haley.
FYI Music News Article About Ole
Quote:And then there’s red dot, the ole-generated incubator label which recently released Haley Reinhart’s Better and the George Canyon album and single “I Got This,” with both projects scaling new sales heights thanks to the involvement of the ole label services duo.
Here, the Curran-Tasson expertise came in handy immediately, as Reinhart was experiencing success with an ole sync placement of the Elvis Presley chestnut “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for Wrigley gum.
“I said to Robert, ‘why don’t we start operating like a label for this?’ Let’s do some radio promotion, some marketing, let’s pour some gasoline on the fire and let’s see what we can get happening,’” Curran recalls. “We started immediately acting like a real label behind her, and the next thing, she’s sold over 200,000 copies of this single that was basically a sync placement.”
Reinhart’s Better has also done well, selling an initial 7500 copies after only two weeks of release.

RE: The Better Era
7500 albums sold. pretty impressive for a girl who's barely out there yet. she only began to touch the surface. the album better will have a slow burn effect I think. within the next year something will big will come from it and it will blow up and gain sales/attention over time. success in longevity.

RE: The Better Era
well in that case that is still good for the single.. but 2500 album sales seems low. her album was decently promoted on social media (by many influential friends/artists/celebs) and exposed to thousands of people, then again most people stream these days...

RE: The Better Era
and that's why I've been saying people need to not fixate on the traditional 'numbers' in sales for #Better...we see the circumstances that have made up what eventually became Haley's sophomore album, independent release, independent distribution, no money to invest in 'traditional' marketing, published by a company that normally doesn't do this kind of thing, and on and on and on....so how does it make sense to apply the same metrics to #Better that are applied to every other 'regular' BIG Music release?
Haley and Better are part of a new direction that Ole is taking (with Red Dot), they think what Haley brings the qualities that they need to make this work, they have constantly shown confidence in Haley's writing skills and their ability to place her songs....
I remember the pounding SMYM got from many of Haley's fans, yet, here we are, it's placed successfully w/ a major company and others, bringing in revenue to Haley and Ole.... so was SMYM a failure like many fans predicted? Well, as far as a product successfully bringing in the $$, I think we have to admit that it has done more for Haley than most of her fans thought it would
Since Haley left Interscope, she's been playing the long game that doesn't rely on the music industry metrics and way of doing things.....
The doom and gloom I'm sensing from some is a bit premature, let's see what Ole does w/ the songs on #Better and the doors it opens for Haley first. The numbers just weeks from it's release, an independent release from an independent artist w/ limited distribution in a shrinking industry will not be the final footnote for this project

The article does not talk about Better as a single, only as an album. Also, the two weeks since release aligns more closely with the album release.
(Edit: Actually, they don't really clarify whether their discussion is about the album or the single, I read it as talking about the LP.)
(Opps, I did it again. It looks like I duplicated this using Ole's article in the article thread. I'll leave it there to give Ole credit.)
