It's the Love of Music that's worth fighting for vs. the roadblocks and Music Industry Tycoons that try to over-control everything including their profits.
Yeah, I'm all for this thinking.
I don't think mention of sex in songs is really about sex either.
(although, if you're in that mindset at the time it might be about sex )
I think when they mention Doing it All night long or whatever, it's about maybe Attainment, or Success, or "Things going right" .... I mean.. many songs about sex fit pretty well as stadium celebration music after a touchdown etc...
and some sultry songs about sex are about "success by my terms", in my opinion of course.
At least, I certainly don't think of the carnal act if I'm humming along to those sultry songs ...

RE: The Better Era
I truly believe 2016 is the year for Haley to breakout. She has a lot of momentum from current projects and I don't want her to slow down.
I may be alone in this viewpoint, but I think she NEEDS to sellout to some degree and make that generic pop/dance song that can be on radio and played at parties 24/7 OR remix a current song on Better with some well known DJ and make it a smash hit. Think Lana Del Rey Summertime Sadness; great song on its own, but pop hit when given the DJ mix; that song was everyone (and thats just one artist/song/example).
Haley shouldn't have to work so hard and not get her due recognition. I wish she could use her connections and could do a new pop song collaboration that's not from Better before she starts her next European tour. And possibly add it to the album via a deluxe version re-release.
Not saying the songs on Better are not good, they are great; but she does need that cookie cutter pop song that will be on everyone's ipod or radio for the summer. And then the rest of her album will take off. Its been the case many times for artists. Haley kills it in the vocals game. She would kill it with one of those pop songs, too.
I know people say she shouldn't have to stoop to that level, but 5 years later I don't see a problem in at least trying it. Hey maybe it might work. And what's the worry, its not like Haley doesn't have 2 great bodies of work behind her. The talent's there; just need people to see it/hear it.

So far I think Bad Light, Behave and Talkin Bout really benefit from the headphones --although they are all some of my favorite songs without them anyway.
Okay...LIWFF...such a big difference :O
YUp Head phones make all the difference , got me some JBL wireless head gear and the song,s come to life.Especally IBTU. The ending with the guitar solo.WTF point blank moment for me.Duno, but I think that,s Harry shredding the Fender, well done smooth, and flawless. Ear candy good for the soul, kinda like a perfectly cooked Rib Eye steak with a Corona to wash it down .

Does she necessarily want to breakout with a "cookie cutter pop song"? Does she want to "sell out"? I'm not getting that impression so far.

I've heard it. IMO Halo Circus have a lot of potential, their sound is good and Allison's Gwen Stefani-esque (circa No Doubt) vocals sound great. But their songwriting needs work. They need to team up with songwriters who have written rock radio hits. Only then they'll have a real chance of breaking out.
