Good or Bad got off to a quick start, taking the lead yesterday, but today, the Creep vote was hard to over come (might Haley's recent Creep video from Paris' popularity have been a factor?)

Not much to say: a clear victory by a great piece of HR art! ... Except to say: a huge thanks once more to you, Tusk, for providing this fun to us, doing all the work that was involved! It certainly made me revisit some songs from a different angle than my usual listening. This was a nice way to get excited all over again, once again! While we wait for HR3, indeed!

Some had issue with the way I set it up, even saying the PMJ songs shouldn't be included. In the 'actual' NCAA competition, teams are 'seeded' by their records and opponents, which would be impossible to apply to Haley's songs...by who's metric do I seed every song Haley's performed....do we then seed individual performances? Then how do we make if fair if each video has different levels of audio/video quality (If you noticed, I didn't use any 'video' of Haley except for PMJ/Idol as to keep things as 'fair' as possible)

i knew if I made it too complicated, it might dissuade people from participating. Judging from how often I had to explain the tournament bracket set up, I was glad that I chose to boil it down to it's simplest components. Each song had it's obvious category....that PMJ had the minimum 8 songs to make it work, the delineation of American Idol, Listen Up! and Better, just made sense

The second objective, after having a bit of fun, was to give a reason to listen/watch Haley's songs...for old and new fans. Through my channel, I think there are a good number of PMJ, Morgan, Casey fans who follow me, so it's a nice way to insert the myriad of Haley's performances for them to enjoy (some may not be aware of the Listen Up! songs, for instance.)

But in the end, I think the matches were relatively fair, Creep was going to beat Seven Nation Army and Black Hole Sun whether they met in the first round or the semi finals.

I expected Spiderweb to do better judging from the 'play in' votes it got, and am definitely surprised that Good or Bad outlasted everyone on the 'album' side of the competition. I figured HOTRS would go far.

Still wonder how CHFIL would have done, but it never even got a vote in the 'play in' part of the contest so I guess, it probably wouldn't have done that great?

I think it is a pity one of her own compositions didn't win, but there's no way one can argue with her vocal mastery on other's pieces that are timeless and iconic to start with (just imagine if Imagine had been part of it)!? These are not covers, these are recreations, resurgences, revitalizations, re-realizations ... only the best songs allow a singer to do that, if the singer is up to it, which Haley is more than anybody of course. So it's all a gift to us, just as it is meant to be, just like HR3 will be.

And yes, I agree, 7NA would have gone down, eventually, New Orleans Dirge is not everybody's cup of tea (I love it, there is so much of the miracles of life in that form of lament) and to see the numbers it is getting on your youtube channel is really nice! My only thought about Creep is always that it is not what Haley otherwise sings about, it somehow is not her vibe to be creepy, in my opinion. But then again, since she feels it when she sings it, it appears, I sometimes wonder whether it is the actor slumbering in her or actually also touches something deeper down in some way (as we all have in ourselves) to bring out that performance. Habits, 7NA and Creep are all from bleaker worlds than Haley's own texts. But there is a pattern in those choices and I wonder if it is by chance. (Gee, how did I get here having started with us having had fun! But the true artists provide both at the same time, entertainment and depth.)

Side Note: Recently, I was curious when Haley first tweeted me (I joined Twitter later than most OG Twitter Haliens) and 'discovered' that it was a reply to a tweet I sent with the lyrics of Imagine..... It's always been an 'important' song for me, made more so learning that it was also important to the Reinharts (not to mention her iconic performance of it in Chicago, captured by Himm and Buzz) so it was a nice reminder, and appropriate, that her first tweet to me, was about a song and an artist we both admire :

Yes, great job with that Tusk. It was fun to watch it play out and I enjoyed voting on twitter. While Creep is not an original, it was a breakout song for Haley. What a performance I remember hearing she had performed it and anticipating that she would knock it out of the park. And she exceeded my expectations. Her PMJ recording shows what she is capable of; making it clear she is not a run of the mill vocalist.

This is pure perfection and art... Omg.

This is amazing. I am completely and totally mesmerized by this beautiful voice. She's world class.
