When will HR3 be promoted?
In the Happy for Haley thread, Tusk documented people on social media seeing Haley with PMJ and looking forward to her return in May.
Quote:^^^^Using PMJ to help promote and increase excitement for her upcoming tour? Check
This ties in with the post below that I had saved as a draft yesterday after preparing to post it in the album thread.
Why is it Haley mentions she'll be returning to Europe, but makes
no mention of releasing new music around the same time?
Are they going to try some songs out there, maybe find the lead single and generate some buzz, before releasing the album?
Given how little promotion we've seen, it almost seems like we would be fortunate to have a single by May and the album by August. The only suggestion otherwise is the Friday Spotify list, some new website content, and the Halien of the month feature.
Here's one publicist's timeline for an album release:
Quote:3-4 months from release day
Once you have your mastered music, agreed-upon tracklist, press photos, bio, album artwork, and a planned release date, you are ready to send out advance copies of your record. It’s important to send your music out early to key “long-lead” publications and websites because they often plan their editorial coverage far in advance of when their new issues hit newsstands or content goes online.
...Shortly after sending out these advance copies, your publicist will service blogs and websites with your leadoff MP3 single – the song you’d like to use to announce the record and make a strong first impression.
Quote:1.5-2 months from release day
Hopefully your publicist has already secured some interviews and coverage to start going online around now, with print features and reviews being locked down for around the release of your record.
Now is the time to share another asset from your album. I’ve found it’s best to debut another MP3 single around this point in the timeline, though you could also premiere a second MP3 and a music video during this period if you have one ready, with one more video that will be ready in time for release day.
Quote:2 weeks from release day
So close! During this time period, your publicist should secure an online outlet to premiere a full-album stream of your record, to go up one week prior to release day. On release day it’ll be taken offline, leaving only the previously-debuted MP3 singles available to the public. It might seem counterintuitive to “spoil” your entire record for listeners so close to release, but it actually helps drive presales and spike interest around the impending release.
Quote:Release day
Congratulations – you made it! An effective way to celebrate the occasion is the world premiere of your first (or second) music video and the announcement (or a reminder about) your upcoming tour.

This cheat sheet suggests May to August would be one of the best times for an emerging artist to release an album.

It's the Haley way? No worries mate, it's all coming soon.
Good questions. I was wondering how it would work since the release of the album is rumored to be at about the same time as her modest European tour. Old music, new music? Single release?

RE: When will HR3 be promoted?
If we've learned anything over these 5+ years, Haley is THE example of someone who marches to her own beat. Guessing her future moves...there's nothing to base it on, her path to her goals has been at the very least, unconventional.....
We can go through her entire history and wonder about all the choices she could have made, but didn't, until the right opportunity, the right fit...then she goes all in
Remember when she was with that guy who hung around festivals and hitch hiked to his gigs? That could have been a path Haley continued on, but there were bigger and better things in her future in store for her

Didn't she target the European Tour as a date she'd like to have new music ready to promote?....judging from Harry's email comment to me, it feels like she's still on track to do that... I still expect, and there's still time, that she might roll out 'new music' at one of her 'not enough notice' shows in LA ;P

RE: When will HR3 be promoted?
With Listen Up!, Haley appeared with Myles and Slash in February. In March, she performed "Free" on Idol. The video was leaked online a couple of days later, and officially released at the end of the month. In April, she did a Voice of America interview where "Wonderland" was heard for the first time.
Assuming those first two appearances were were simply fortunate opportunities, if HR3 is to be released in late May we should expect the marketing for HR3 to pick up once Haley returns to the U.S.
A single should be released soon along with an official announcement of the upcoming album. Possibly accompanied by an announcement of Concord signing Haley.
I've been looking for evidence the latter is true and they are enthused about it.
The videos they have uploaded on their channel might show a band playing, or contain lyrics, but more often than not are simply audio recordings with a still photo.
However, I noticed the "spotlight" on their channel actually lists videos on the official/Vevo channel's of their more popular artists:

"High Ticket Attractions" (Lyric Video)

Quote:Esperanza Spalding - Unconditional Love

Quote:AFI - Snow Cats

So this is what we should hope for.
Google News shows with AFI - a band that's been around for decades -- there were a couple of press mentions prior to their last album being released on January 20th.
- The Brooklyn Vegan (blog) on December 5
- Next Mosh on December 6.
The week of the album's release there were a few mentions:
- A BlogCritics review on January 21
- An interview in Aquarian Weekly on January 25
- An in-depth Yahoo Music "Backspin" interview on January 26:
https://www.yahoo.com/music/backspin-afi...47120.html
That's not much in publicity, I'm pointing to it for timing. Looks like a about a six-to-seven week lead time. The AFI video above was posted to YouTube 15 days before the album's release date.
^ This should probably be our expectation in terms of timing.
Footnote: Esperanza had more publicity. Oddly though, she was performing tracks from her most recent album in concert a full year before the album was released. The Dixie Chicks last album was a compilation album released in 2010. I checked for information on both of them yesterday to try to get some hint of the game plan.

Nothing official yet. A person in the studio said in January it was Haley's "homage to the sixties."
