I think that number is deceiving, HF gets a lot of "bot' registrations, Miguel has to go through and delete them...I think the real number of human registrants is probably more than 300...

If you click on the name of a new registrant, for instance, if they are a 'bot', in the section where you're to fill in "what I like about Haley Reinhart", a bot will put some kind of random set of letters. The question is a bot test. A real person would put a 'real' answer

It's been a month since I culled the list. In that time, I've been laid off and rehired. So my focus hasn't been on administering the site.

450 of the 756 are from Russia (.ru). I don't closely review those before deleting because I get so many. The same is true of a few other email addresses.

That's the first thing I do to cull the list. The version of the software I use only allows me to delete 20 users at a time. Until I figured out a few months ago that I could use the history feature on my browser to return to the search results, I was having to enter a new search for each 20.

To delete 20 users:

1) Search
2) Select All (on the page)
3) Select "delete" from drop-down menu
4) Hit enter
5) Confirm I want to delete

Then return to search results, select a new page, and repeat 2-5.
Would be nice to be able to select all 450 at once.

I then scan the remaining addresses 20 at a time for email addresses that look legit. If I find any that do, I look at the profile of the user to see the answer to the test question (that requires two clicks).

yeah, Russia seems to keep coming up as a country that has a lot of nefarious actors on the internet, which is unfortunate, because I get good number of comments from fans in Russia on my Youtube channel. There could be some legit fans in your pile of Russian submissions, it's possible a small number of them are legit....but Oh well, that's the world we live in and looks like a lot of effort just to 'clean up' the registration process, so some might get lost.

For those who don't know, 'bots' appear to register on a daily basis, Miguel has to put up obstacles for 'bot' accounts because often they will come in and post ads or possibly dangerous links. If not maintained on a regular basis, unfortunately, they start piling up

Speaking of 'nefarious actors' on the Internet, Twitter has been warning of spam/phishing 'Google Doc" attack currently going on right now. If you get an invite to view a google doc in an email, don't click on it until you confirm that the 'sender' did indeed send you the email..... I'm reading that if you click or open it, it might download something, then send itself to those in your address book

I get good number of comments from fans in Russia on my Youtube channel. There could be some legit fans in your pile of Russian submissions, it's possible a small number of them are legit....

That's one reason I posted the process. If someone from Russia is legit, they need to register using a different address or reach out to me via Twitter to let me know what address to look for.

^ "eamale" has become a popular spam domain the last few months. Just deleted 33 of them (probably bots originating from one person).
