“‘The Letter’ is such a cool, timeless tune,” says Reinhart. “One of my earliest memories is crowding around my grandma’s piano listening to my Aunt Janice and Uncle Tom sing and play it. My uncle can sound just like Alex Chilton and the Box Tops with his guttural, sandpaper-like tone, while my aunt would harmonize with her soulful pipes. I thought it would be really neat to bring it up a couple of keys and give a woman’s take on the tune. It’s such a unique, upbeat song with gritty vocals, horns and sweeping strings. It’s become a pop standard to many and I’m so happy I got to put my own spin on it.”

Love it!! Just beautiful!

It is all about her voice and choices, embedded so well into the flow of the music. That is what makes her versions so unique, so much her own. There is so much to discover! I know I'll not get tired of listening to this one!

It's been six years, eventually we have to let this go, and the American Idol 'dis'....w/o Idol most of us wouldn't know who "Haley Reinhart" is....Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, both winners, are trying to get out of their contracts..... If Interscope didn't have a brain fart, Haley might still be signed with them singing Other people's songs, making THEM money. Concord, by most accounts, is a perfect fit for Haley where she is in her career, and invested proven and award winning talent to her project as well as resources like studio and musicians...

It's time to leave the past in the past...the future is bright, we have a new album, the 2nd in 2 years....a tour, the 2nd in 2 years....and Haley has a TON of songs written and is signed to a company, Ole, that takes extremely good care of their artists...

Let's move on, I prefer the brightness of the future than regurgitating a dark past...

I like the song but I gotta say that I was waiting for a more raspy and stronger version from Haley. IMHO, she sticked too much to the original. As I was listening to it I had the feeling that her voice was 'prisoned' (maybe I got used to her singing live) and I kept waiting for the moment she would explode and leave me amazed as she always does. But Haley never get us disappointed.

Do you hear that sound of the "aeroplane" right before the end!? Is it a copy straight from the original sound track?

Love it, it sounds great. Also like that personalized stories in the Variety article and family and friends feel of the video.

I don't you're going to see Haley stray too far off track on the covers. They are all classics of the period which don't really need much, if any, enhancement. As an oldster I remember every tune well but I think there is a large percentage of the music listening public who isn't really very familiar with them at all. I think "What's that Sound?" is going to be an excellent time capsule of an important time in history, musically and otherwise.

Here is the thing, she can't sing EVERY song with her raspy growly voice. I like this version...it is more quiet, understated, pretty in a way. I am sure there will be plenty of songs where she lets loose.
