RE: Oct 5th, 2018 - Haley show at The Hotel Cafe (Hollywood)
This show is fast approaching. Looks like she will be assisted by a very busy keyboardist who just performed with Bruce Springsteen in Asbury Park, NJ.

2017 article:
Quote:Carey Frank studied organ with Dr. Lonnie Smith, drags his Hammond B3 and Leslie 122 around Los Angeles in a minivan, and recently learned 60 songs in four days to join the Tedeschi Trucks Band on tour as their fill-in keyboardist. For these reasons and more, he's our TALENT SCOUT Artist of the Week.
MUSICAL TRAINING: I come from a musical family - both of my grandparents were musicians and my uncle is also a musician. I started taking piano lessons when I was four years old, part of a “Mommy and Me” type of class. I remember that every week our teacher would give a prize to the kid that logged the most practice hours and I always won the prize. My junior high/high school were very small (I think I graduated with 43 kids in my class), so the band consisted of keyboards, guitar, drums, and a singer/saxophone player. I had the best music teacher, Zohar Shahar. He saw my potential and really gave me the direction I needed. He taught me all of the Beatles’ tunes, current and old pop songs, jazz standards, as well as other useful gigging tips. Since there was no bassist, he had me play left hand bass and told me that’s what an organ player does, so I listened to every album I could find with Hammond organ and fell in love. I found a music store with a Hammond B3 and set up shop there every day after school. I can’t forget to mention that my dad is a chiropractor and his patient, Dr. Lonnie Smith, was kind enough to show me some Hammond organ tricks now and then and quickly became a close mentor. I did my undergraduate studies in Orlando at the University of Central Florida. I studied with Per Danielsson and then received my Masters at University of Southern California, studying with Alan Pasqua, Russ Ferrante, and Otmaro Ruiz.
MY BIG BREAK: Moving to Los Angeles and purchasing a Hammond B3/Leslie and a minivan! At the time, aside from my good buddy Ty Bailie, no one else was dragging around a Hammond organ. Literally the day after I bought my first B3, my whole week got booked up with gigs and it’s been that way ever since. A few months after that, I was introduced to and started touring with the singer Lucy Woodward (Rod Stewart/Snarky Puppy). Almost a year after that, I got a call out of the blue to sub in the Tedeschi Trucks Band for Kofi Burbridge as he recovered from emergency heart surgery. I had four days to learn all 60 of their songs for the 2017 Wheels of Soul Summer tour. I’m currently finishing up my third tour with them in NYC, and I’m very happy to report that Kofi is healing tremendously and will be back on the road very soon!
FAVORITE KEYBOARDS AND WHY? The Hammond B3 organ (with a Leslie 122 speaker)! You can get so many more sounds from a Hammond organ than most people think. The right player can make it sound like a full big band blasting a loud shout chorus, and then quickly play it at a beautiful whisper. I don’t think any keyboard has really figured out how to emulate it, partly because there are so many factors that change each Hammond’s sound such as dirt in the keys, a building’s voltage level, how the room is working with the Leslie cabinet, etc. I also really enjoy playing the Nord Stages and Electros. I have the Stage 2 with 88 keys and the Electro 5 with 73 keys. I love the versatility and the ability to quickly run to a gig with a backpack case, plug in a few cables and turn on a keyboard with a lot of easily editable, great sounds.

RE: Oct 5th, 2018 - Haley show at The Hotel Cafe (Hollywood)
This is what happens when 'inspiration' takes over me...
Jay had told me about this show over a couple months ago... they had planned to roll out 'Undone' in some way again. A thanks for the fans since it has been a long time fan favorite since Listen Up! was released.
So after the show, Jay told me to take my time with this... he wanted it to be 'cinematic'...not like the typical fan video. They want this to be the 'official' live performance of "Undone"....
I get back to Greg's around 12:30. On the 1 & half hour+ drive back, my mind starts kicking into gear, an outline of what I want to do (a reason I have difficulty sleeping alot of the time is, since I was young, my mind races...'overthinking'...the creative outlets are a chance for me to direct and focus that excess energy.)
Even though at the HC, he told me to 'take my time' I received two text to remind me they want to use this to promote "Undone", so it was on my mind. Before I knew it, it was 7 am when I linked him to the video. Caught a couple hours of sleep, woken up by Jay's message, "Amazing, I'll post today" so I emailed him the link to download...
I was able to get good audio, the bass was very loud at the front. I surreptitiously recorded w/ my Zoom mic, but I erred on the side of getting Not 'too loud' recording, so even though 'clean' it was low volume. I could afford to boost it, combining w/ my iPhone audio, lowered, to match the volume level of the Zoom audio. The combination came out really well, only wish I'd set the mic to record at a higher level
So this is #TeamHaleyFans 4th 'official' music video posted on Haley's channel
I've been asked to do the video of Haley's performance of "Don't Know How to Love You" from the Hotel Cafe (Anders joined Haley on stage)....problem is I was half asleep, on 'automatic' when I worked on Undone.... I don't recall all the steps I took to replicate what I did for Undone

RE: Oct 5th, 2018 - Haley show at The Hotel Cafe (Hollywood)
Jay told us that she's bringing back Undone on his request. Anders and Dylan both played guitar on DKHTLY. I'm looking forward to editing it, just hope I can manage the bass drum. I think Rachel's audios are generally not as bassy as mine because she takes vertical videos, meaning the microphone at the Phone's base (apparently iPhones have at least 3 mic, one at the base, one near the lens, one facing you on the other side).
Since I use my phone horizontally to fit the standard video dimensions, the mic on the base of the phone is pointed outwards, picking up more sound waves than a mic that is pointing to the ground.
The reason I had to make the video black and white is the struggle all 3 cameras had w/ the low light of the venue. In order to edit 3 files from 3 different cameras, you have to try and make each video as close to the other as possible. The video from below Haley was excellent, 4k, ISCAT's camcorder, but when Haley would face a certain direction, her face would wash out quite a bit, to a lesser degree the iPhone video. My point and shoot Canon had the best detail. So I had to make those variables get as close as possible to each other AND under low light. It's not as noticeable when in black and white w/ the contrast bumped up a bit.

Here is my video of Haley singing “You Showed Me” for the first time ever last night:
She knew I was coming to the show (I just tweeted her about it being my favorite from WTS? a few weeks ago) and looked right at me when announcing it last night. Dylan also mentioned after the show they had talked about it during rehearsals what an honor!
