I believe that is true for counting ad impressions, I'm not sure about views. When the ad is presented in such a fashion I think NOT showing the car - a common complaint in the comments - is more likely to hold someone's attention than a traditional car ad.

Not many of the comments for the 30 sec version on YT mention the song. The one that has about 17 million views currently.

The long game is voice recognition.  It began w/ Creep, grew w/ CHFIL, if even a fraction of those 17+ million views hears the ad, they will connect it w/ her previous work.  You build a track record, your voice becomes familiar.  Match that with the right song?....that's the recipe Smile

Most of you know I'm a HUGE fan of ABBA.  There is/was such a thing as 'the ABBA sound', that is, when the two vocalists sing in harmony, it becomes instantly recognizable.  Many bands tried to imitate the 'ABBA sound'

Haley's voice is that distinct.  Many of us can pick up her voice even among a chorus, her sound is unique, the 'Haley' sound Cool

I think all that is true but I'm tempering my expectations on the popularity of the song when it is released.  The commercial doesn't have the juice and organic interest that the Story of Sara and Juan had and there is no great interest in the song on this one.

That's why I cautioned that the numbers aren't necessarily a good indicator of the song's popularity in my OG post.  The pull of CHFIL was magnified by the story crafting in the ad, that's what connects w/ people of any income level.  The Mazda3 ad doesn't target or reach the same market, nor is there a story being told.  OTOH there is the increased exposure, and like I said, increased exposure that includes Haley's voice, increasing voice recognition and awareness.

I may have known Carly Simon's voice from the "Anticipation" ketchup commercials back in the day before I was aware of her music....something like that

It is clear that Haley has been playing the long game, not jumping at the first offer, not taking the 'easy' way out, not signing w/ the first suitor, defining her brand according to her instincts.  She created her companies way early, before she joined PMJ... I think shortly after she took her classes w/ Dina, I was aware of them as early as 2013 (although #LoFiSoul is the first time I'd heard of Reinhart Records).  Six years later, she is putting them to use on her first independent release..that's playing the long game Cool

I wasn't going to post this, but it might be relevant in relation to people looking Haley up, maybe because of the ad.

When I do a google search "Haley Reinhart"  The first video listed is Haley's DKHTLY from Vienna.  The second is "Creep" from Ribfest, then Haley's Lo-Fi Soul home video.

Around the time LFS dropped, the tour announced and the Mazda Commercial debuted, "Creep" from Ribfest experienced a HUGE spike, a daily average of between 2,000-4,000 views suddenly jumped to 13,500+, 17,800+, and two days of over 15,000 plus.

Other of my top videos for the month don't have the same bump, anywhere near what Ribfest Creep experienced.  The reason perhaps being that anyone that looked up "Haley Reinhart" might've seen the same top videos I saw, DKHTLY, Ribfest Creep and LFS.  As the other two are unfamiliar songs, it's not hard to think that they chose to watch the song they do know, "Creep".  (Also, they may know of Haley's Creep cover w/ PMJ so selected it to see a live performance....plus the thumbnail Tongue )

When CHFIL hit, my channel experienced a bump across the board on the top viewed videos.

From the volume of social media posts re: LFS vs Better vs WTS tours, there's not nearly the same number of posts for LFS tour as opposed to the previous two, so it's unlikely LFS tour is the reason for the spike, specifically on RF Creep, which makes me think the Mazda commercial combined w/ Google's Search was probably the prime mover that initiated the massive spike in views on Ribfest's video.

When I messaged Jay he said they are waiting for the full song... Not sure what that implies. I agree this is a pretty lame car ad. One that is not conventional, but it's doing what the marketers intended. Getting people talking. Most are coming to watch this car commercial not about a car. And the plus is Haley gets some new listeners and maybe another CHFIL single magic. Win-win for her.

Not sure what it means, but someone posted a screen shot of the Mazda Dreams cover on the Shazam app and it had a single cover which was a picture of young haley. Perhaps a single release can come as soon as Friday?... Thoughts?

It would be wonderful if Haley's team put together a video for "Drams" that strung together images from her life. Not likely, I think, since the song was recorded in March and Haley was prepping for the "Lo-Fi Soul" tour.

5. Subaru: Dream Big
Impressions: 205,519,171

2. Mazda: Dream Bigger
Impressions: 315,452,276

Interestingly, Cadillac spent $8M less than Mazda, but had 20M more impressions. Their "attention index" though was half of Mazda's.
