Condolences to Steven Tyler
Quote:NASHUA — Victor “Vic” Tallarico, musician and father of Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, died Sept. 10 in Nashua. He was 95.
Tyler was most-likely inspired to pursue music by his father’s lifelong passion for it. Tallarico played throughout his life and continued to give concerts and perform at the weekly cocktail hour at his Hunt Community residence until the age of 93. He was at the Hunt Community, surrounded by family, when he passed away Saturday morning.
Tallarico was born in Manhattan in 1916. His parents, Giovanni and Constance, were both musicians. His mother played piano and his father played saxophone and cello.
Tallarico became an accomplished pianist, playing his first professional gigs by the time he was 7. He went on to attend Columbia University and the Julliard Conservatory. Tallarico started to give private lessons and eventually taught music at the Foxwood School on Long Island and at Cardinal Spellman private high school in the Bronx.
During World War II Tallarico played sousaphone in the Army Band and continued to book piano playing dates in civilian clubs on the weekends. During this time he met his wife, Susan, and they married in 1945. Always the family man, Tallarico declined an offer to join Glenn Miller’s band after the war because of his family responsibilities.
He performed in the ballrooms of resort hotels throughout Sunapee with his brother, Ernie, on saxophone. Tallarico’s son, Steven, later joined them on the drums. Tallarico was known as a proud family man. Steven launched his own successful music career with the band, Aerosmith. Daughter Lynda is a retired teacher living in southern Vermont.
Tallarico kept strong ties to the Sunapee area. He ran Trow-Rico summer resort there with his wife and children for decades. Tallarico and Susan continued to summer in Sunapee while maintaining a home in Nashua. After 63 years of marriage Susan passed away in 2008 at age 84.
Tallarico is survived by his children, his brother, Ernest, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
You may recall a moment this past AI season when Steven Tyler was mouthing "I love you" to the camera. That was directed to his father. Tyler was invited to the White House Correspondents Dinner on April 30 by People Magazine but missed the event because his father had fallen ill.
Quote:"Steven missed this weekend's events because his father got ill. He is much better now and he will celebrate his 95th birthday with Steven next week."

Mr T rocked. His class was fun to be in.

Yes it was - I remember him on day one, holding up 'Toys in the Attic', telling the class: "My son and his band put this out a few years ago and from what I know, they're doing quite well in royalties - now pay attention..." LOL - what a guy!

RE: Condolences to Steven Tyler
While I can offer condolences to the grieving family, I truly doubt that the family will see this.
What I find most striking is the loving -- almost tribute -- performance that this is. Music has been a gift that has been shared through at least 3 generations in Steven's family. Indeed, they very much exemplify that "music is a lifetime need."
Miguel, thank you for finding and sharing this video.
