CLA: Oh, we’re hitting them with a baseball bat like three or four times over. I’m not using the compression to save myself from having to ride the fader; I’m trying to put some character into it. I want it to sound like it was recorded on a 16 track, with a Fairchild, hitting the tape nice and hard, adding all of that color and character into it — making that in your face sound.

He appears to be old-school in his technique, so I think that's the sound we would get if it's appropriate to the tune.

hmm lets start at the beginning of it all... I was born in Atlanta, Georgia. I am going to refrain from telling you the year lol. I was raised in Sacramento, Ca by a single mother!! (fast forwarding)>>> I moved to Los Angeles to sign a deal with Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and be in a group called Purple Reign under management of Tiffany Enriquez! Our team worked sooo so hard for about a year and a half and ended up signing a deal with Universal/Motown under Sylvia Rhone and Chris Anakute! Within that year and a half I got my first placements on major artists. The artists included Shontelle Layne, Pitbull, Ray J and Diddy Dirty Money. As time went on, the group was dissolved due to changed circumstances at Motown. As of now, I am continuing to write with my teammate Tommy Brown (Producer) and I am proceeding with my career as a solo artist! So far so good!! I wanna do it all...own a perfume, magazines, tour the world, create a non profit org for homeless children, clothing line, create cyber record label, build a studio school and more!! Purple Reign is an American female music group assembled by producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, established in 2010. The trio consists of Latoya Duggan, Victoria McCants and Siobhan McNear.

In November 2010, they group released a mixtape titled Darkchild Presents Purple Reign.

The girls of Purple Reign have also been featured on Shontelle’s album “No Gravity” as well as Diddy-Dirty Money’s 2010 album “Last Train to Paris.”

The girls disbanded mid-2011.

Many of her other songs have more of a pop sound. They're more upbeat and she sings with a higher pitched tone to her voice. I don't much like them, but they're popular -- if you look at her bio you will see her songs have been featured on television shows and many YouTube listeners are familiar with them from the music played in the stores they work at (Kohl's, stc).

How would you define yourself as an artist?

Hmm. Way to stump me on the first question! Haha. I'm not sure how to define myself. I'm a singer songwriter. I play guitar. I make pop/jazz/soul/vintage-ish albums. I'm from Detroit so I got a little Motown in me. And I have a sort of raspy voice.

Who would you name as your biggest influence? / Your Idol?

I don't have just one idol. I'm a huge Beatles fan. I love Ella Fitzgerald. I love Smokey Robinson too. As a writer I'm a huge fan of Diane Warren, Carole King, and Neil Diamond too. They know how to write hits!

Would you compare yourself to any other artist?

I don't know who to compare myself with. Some say Duffy and Adele. Some say Corinne Bailey Rae. Some say Lenka. I guess that means we all have similar influences. I just make music and hope people dig it as much as I do!

I think if it was Haley singing these songs I would like them. Kind of sounds like Colbie Callait. Hopefully Haley's album only has a sprinkling of songs like this, though. Ideally the songs should have an eclectic but cohesive vibe that really showcases Haley's talent...JMO

Haley is takeing her time whith her album. With all the songriters and musicians that's on the bandwagon, she will come up with something that we can expect, Maybe more. Im not bagging on the other Idols, but they banged out a c/d in record time.kinda like cookie cutter stuff off the shelf, don't no but I don't think they put a lot of thought into it. Whatever the folks want, what ever sells So glad that Haley had a intuition as not to rush into this She is in it for the long hall.
