Scotty performed the National Anthem at the first World Series game

It didn't sound very good.

There was no sound at first due to technical problems.

Is it possible they prerecorded it but something went wrong and he had to sing it when he was planning on lip-synching?

Lauren did a beautiful rendition but this isn't American Idol so we have to knock off points for flubbing the beginning before a national television audience on Thanksgiving Day.

Miguel, I don't often take issue with you, but Lauren's rendition of our national anthem was simply dreadful. Not only did she seem to forget the lyrics, but she couldn't stay in the key that she started in. (Not all that uncommon when singing a capella, but why go the a capella route if you have a choice [and she probably did have one].)

I was probably too kind as I only really liked the ending. Originally I was going to put her last, but I really disliked how countrified Scotty made the anthem and when I recalled he also had a small flub that was enough for me to put him last.

Updating this post to include Pia singing the National Anthem at last season's final NASCAR race. As you might imagine, she performs it in the traditional manner and does a fine job.



Pia has performed the anthem at many big events over several years and likely has more experience with it than any of the other Idols.

Casey sang the National Anthem last night. The person who recorded it said in the description, "Worst. Anthem. EVER."

While ""Worst. Anthem. EVER." is more hyperbolic than the rendition deserves, when Casey doesn't hit his notes (to be fair, they were the higher ones that the general public can't sing), it's definitely winceable.

As I said in another thread (yesterday, I believe), Casey's musical strength/genius is not his voice. His vocal ability is just another link that he can throw in to the mix.
