Tom, my turn to apologize. I didn't think your posts were argumentative -- just that the first one had gone far astray of my message.

Also, I'm not against people playing multiple instruments -- as long as one is really good on at least one of them. (I've dabbled on several other instruments as well -- but I never lost focus that trumpet was my primary instrument, and by the time I'd started dabbling, I was already really solid on it.)

You're right -- Quinton is talented. He's just not playing at the level that Casey and Jacob (sax player) are. My suspicion is that he's self taught on the keyboard as well.

There are people who can make that work as well. But I don't think Quinton has the focus or discipline (or something along those lines) to become that accomplished. If he does, we haven't yet seen it.

I read and agree with you on that discipline thing.. unless he(Quentin) just took up self teaching two years ago !

.. plenty of 14 year olds in N.O. that moved onto careers that could run-up and down the keyboard with a complex sort of Scot Joplin rag from just disciplined trial and error without instruction.
.. and its a necessary tool in the quiver he needs to develop even if he brings good running with the singer's intentions for a song.

(if by some chance Quentin is reading I'd think it would do him a lot of good to learn some basic instructional standards classical and other. Not at a concert level but well enough to say "wow, he's pretty good"

I think this one with a 4 year old is a fake (although I think the kid is fingering the right notes with a different audio track) but it shows some other songs he shoud get his fingers to do

learn a fairly easy but such a basic piano piece for anyone worthy of playing on stage Joplins Maple Leaf Rag (I could play it (ok, poorly and in slow motion if using the full chords) after only a few years piano lessons.. then quitting... )

she starts showing some feel at 2:03 feel with a crispness.
She's not that good but the point is any piano player should have that in their repetoire and I'd expect it to do it better than her.

People can look up far better concert versions but my point isn' that he should become a master

but if he had the technical ability to do these then he can go back and play the way he does now with a deeper skill set to pull on.

And he must have the time during the days to learn these things and if it isn't fun for him...well.. it should be fun for a musician to learn different styles IMO

The other main point I share with you MAE is that high school students and below can play at a higher standard.

Casey's must have a motive and I suspect the motive is more based on the mood of the entire show .... a live performance is only part music....part a created ambience.

Perhaps Quentin is good to collaborate with when coming up with new music/arrangements.

Our initial goal is $150,000...

Should we exceed our goal, and can get to $225,000 we will be able to:
Add more shooting days
Hire additional crew

If we hit our stretch goal of $350,000
Add more days in the editing room
Hire musicians for our score
Source great music for the soundtrack
Get graphics for the opening title sequence, and much much more

If we exceed that goal and make it to $450,000
This will support us for festival entries and participation in festivals
Allow us to do foreign language versions
Get award consideration screenings (a must to be considered for the Golden Globes, Oscars, and most other major awards)

Fingers crossed they receive enough $$$ to make the movie. I'm not sure why they don't give themselves 60 days. I put in $25 so far for the early bird special of a screening. I could go to the NYC show--if the timing was right. I'll put in another donation a little later on.

I got an email awhile back that they had some investors--so maybe some of the groundwork has started.

Hope some people here at Haleyfans can kick in at least 5 bucks for the movie. It might be really good and a break for Casey in the acting world.

Casey recorded a music video in his backyard last June with 12 year old singer Skylar Stecker that now has over 105,000 views. I was impressed with her maturity and voice for such a young girl. She has 72 videos on her you tube channel, mostly covers, and a few originals.
The other day I happened to turn on the Queen Latifah show, and there was Skylar Stecker performing True Colors, by Cindy Lauper,with MattyB, an 11 year old you tube sensation with over 1 Billion views! Hard to believe!
