Seems a lot of good talent leaves at this point (Melinda Doolittle, Joshua, and Haley). Wonder if TPTB will ever "wake up and smell the coffee" as the late Ann Landers used to say. There are some serious issues going on with the way AI collects votes, and until it fixes them...

In reading the "afterelton" post, I got a kick out of one commentor's way of describing Phillip Phillips' performing: "Let's face it, Phillip is a great, kinky, stage presence, but not a very good singer. He never found a single note he likes, so he slides and tortures each one before going on to the next note he's not going to sing."

Not sure that I'd describe him as a "great, kinky, stage presence" but can not argue with the second sentence.

Filipinos in PHL can vote for Jessica Sanchez online using skype magic jack and Vonage

MANILA — Here’s good news for Filipinos here and abroad, they can cast their votes online for American Idol finalist Jessica Sanchez.

“Yes, people in Manila can vote for as long as they have a magic jack, Vonage or Skype,” said Grace Valera, co-director of Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC), a Filipino non-profit organization based in Washington, DC.

Ms. Valera made the confirmation in an e-mail to the Philippines News Agency Saturday after some quarters asked if Filipinos in the Philippines or anywhere in the world can participate in the voting in the prestigious American Idol television show.

...During the penultimate contest last week, MHC urged all Filipinos in the US and other parts of the world to vote for Jessica, saying – “wala munang tulugan!”

The Filipinos responded by casting their votes on line for Jessica.

Valera said, said that Filipinos across the globe can cast their votes by dialing 1-866-436-5702, 1-866-5705 or 1-866-5708 (300 TIMES) OR TEXT vote to 5702 or vote online www.americanidol.com (50 x only).

“We need your solid votes. Do not vote for other contestants,” Valera said.

As a rejoinder, Philippine Consul General Rowena Mendoza posted her statement in the internet, calling all Kababayan in the Philippines to “please vote for Jessica Sanchez on http://www.americanidol.com/vote/ - maximum of 50 votes per person – time of voting should coincide with US show time schedule (Wednesdays 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Pacific Standard Time – California - you only have two hours right after the show to cast you vote online. Salamat ng marami.”

Looks like Phillip vs Philippines. Nigel better pray to God that P2 takes it, because the voter fraud story is starting to bubble to the surface and will explode if Jessica wins. It would threaten the very integrity of the show, and cause untold damage to the Idol brand. Keep a close eye on this story, it's a huge scandal that could take down a lot of very powerful people, and maybe even shut down the biggest television franchise of this century.

Miguel, thanks for the research. On Michael Slezak's TVLine blog, I've been seeing posts stating that, on the one hand, point out that those in foreign countries have the ability and have been voting; and, on the other hand, well acknowledging that the capability is there, that AI has the ability to sort out the "legit votes" from the" not so legit votes."

So this, then poses some interesting dilemmas for a show that thrives on drama and manipulation.

So if P squared wins, AI has another safe WGWG as Idol, which has its own legitimate voting criticisms, and, if Jessica wins, it will be because those in the Philippines helped her win, even if not true. A curious "rock and a hard place" dilemma.

Oh, how AI always manages to find itself wrapped up in controversy!

Not even a full day after the guitar was passed from #wgwg4 champion to #wgwg5 champion in the lowest rated finale ever, Phillip Phillips is already standing up to his new record label about the kind of music he wants to make. Phillip told The Hollywood Reporter that he has already informed his label that Home will not be his first single, saying, ""The song that I did tonight that supposedly is my single, it's not really my single, I told them it's not my single... I don’t write songs like that."

Phillip also made us smile when he told reporters, "I have no shame in saying it - I’m not a great singer." Dude knows it and embraces it.
So there you have it. Phillip wants to do his own type of music and admits he's not a great singer. We really like this guy - of course, that's why we helped him win. White Guys with Guitars forever!

Phillip is dominating the charts. #1 single, #3 album, and 14 songs in the Top 200. Staggering numbers. I'm really intrigued about his post-idol album plans. He's going for a unique blend of Jazz and acoustic rock, and is writing the album and music himself. Sounds fantastic. I've purchased 7 songs from his Idol collection, and find him to be a very authentic, unique and deep. This guy is no Sweet Serendipity pop singer.
