Not enough purple for me. On the Minnesota Vikings we have "Purple Jesus" for a running back...On HF.com we have "Purple Cheetah Girl" for the win...

It might be my favorite look for her to date, a combination of class, provocative and stylish... I like that she uses her opportunities to be playful with her outfits. It appears she rarely hits a 'sour note' in regards to her outfits the same way she doesn't hit them with her vocals

I agree...

"Big hair" is a big insult in the city. Now, Haley hasn't exactly had the suburban Dallas or suburban Chicago, or Surburban Dallas look, the full blond thing just doesn't fit a New York city or Los Angeles, or San Fransciscan's picture of what a bluesy musician or a rock musician is supposed to look like . Petty ? maybe but the big blond look doesn't help impressions and to be honest, I think it really hurts in terms of impressions....reinforces her idol connection which I really don't think is a positive to people most likely to appreciate her alternative style.

She doesn't quite need tattoo's or truly odd clothing . She doesn't have to go as far as Amy winehouse and certainly not Lady Gaga ... but closer to Amy winehouson the spectrum between Suburban housewife and Amy Winehouse than an affluent surburban executives wife would help.

In this picture she at least looks like what an urban girl in her 20's who is an attorney or budding ad-executive would look like going out to a club.

Certainly easier to present in my crowd (i.e at least looks like our expectation of a successful 20 year old). I think another step to something that also looks like there is something of a quirky difference beyond that...

Look at Adam Levine wearing $600 ripped T-shirts to keep a hip image, or Cee-lo with his bizarre accouterments that somehow hit that bigger than life sort of semi hip hop expectation, or Cristine Agurlara's changing and extreme hair accents. I think country stars can look more normal.. a tiny bit sharper than normal perhaps, but with less of a divide as that "of the people" is more the ideal country image.

Now, if you are trying to appeal to 13 year old girls that might be a bit different dress than appealing to a blues fan who might want something more understated with a bit of a disheveled "I don't really want to fit in" look.

Don't get me wrong, I love "Straight Hair Haley" the best, but I also love her "has an identity all it's own" Golden locks too.

I remember the first time I met her in person in Spokane, the first thought that ran through my head after "Dammm....." and ".......*stunned*......" is ..."Now that's some 'Rock and Roll" hair!!!"

I think about why KISS said they thought their OTT iconic outfits were necessary for what they do because in a huge stadium, they wanted the fans sitting way back in the cheap seats to be able to distinguish them.

Haley fills the stage on her own, that mane is every bit part of the Haley's Iconic personality IMO. I just appreciate that she is willing, and successful at experimenting with her look without losing that essence that makes Haley, Haley

It's interesting that Haley changed her hair color around the time she parted ways with Interscope. It could be she wanted to make the change earlier but wasn't allowed because their marketing materials featured her with blonde hair.

Actually, I think all I usually know is some of the questions, not the answers.

Unfortunately I'm often more about alternatives than solutions. More about "on the other hand, or it could be this way" than any firm bits of knowledge.

BUT - THAT won't stop me from MORE Musing ! (cringe ? )

I had more time to think about it so - a few very different notions came to my philosopher's (sophist ?) mind

I do know that almost all rock stars and Motown stars and even most pop stars just don't wear normal clothes and jewelry...(very very few exceptions). If a normal girl or guy put on the Star's , clothes, make-up and jewelry and walked into a mall you'd probably get a "who's the hell is that guy/girl ?"

Not all are at the ultimate extreme of mega sellers like Elvis or Michael Jackson or Lady Gaga. (or b -52s etc)

Esperanza Spaulding gets by with a hair fashion statement : a not-remotely-fit-for-a-news-caster afro.

Norah Jones and say Alicia keys seem to be closer to normal (although Alicia is often extremely racy . Norah seems to get by with just the slightest tinge of stuff bought at a used clothing store sometimes.. but mostly she has a somewhat exotic look in her eyes that comes off as somewhat artistically introspective (subtle things about her hair color and make up might help that but that's beyond me.) Their music fits their looks too.

I think Haley's broad music style makes many a distinct style difficult.

Do different songs of hers point to different looks ? :

Free, Undone - her look over the last year fits them pretty perfectly.

Oh My, Now that you're Here . Follow me I'm right behind you: Something a bit more Slutty and maybe a slice of an urban rapper gangster look ?

Spiderweb, Liar - rocker look .. tight black pants roughly bobbed hair jet black or two tone or something. halter top or wife beater tee-shirt .. metal studded wrist band.. dog choke chain collar (ok .. maybe thats a bit poetic)

Wonderland , wasted tears, let's call it heaven - Knee high leather boots an extremely short mini skirt and vest- like top tight enough to call a bit of attention to her "sisters" - with platinum hair or something (I'm thinking Nancy Sinatra ) or a Jive Funk look ? tight rainbow pants , blossomly pirate shirt like untra pink blouse.. hair up.. enormous bangle earnings (i'd prefer the Nancy look)

Hell like I said.. I don't really know

Haley did look pretty interesting with that purple hair and crazy make-up... only she know's what she's comfortable with but the picture didn't look odd on the face (to me) .

Her hair isn't naturally blond I don't think so as long as she's coloring it she could go dark instead of golden... I mean the "natural her" is neither. Dark has more ways to look exotic and a bit mystical without going over the top.

I am not a huge fan of the straight hair - it's gorgeous, but her crazy curls suit her so much better in my opinion. As far as color goes, I didn't like it when it was getting too blonde...it wasn't as flattering as the dirty blonde with highlights look. Haley is amazing no matter what, but the big curly hair really puts her her individuality front and center.

Just to be clear, I LIKE the way she looks ! She looks like a nice AND very attractive young lady that I'd love to , say, have my nephew meet and have at thanksgiving dinner etc ! (and need to be very careful about having my eyes linger on too long if the family went to the beach together .. lol)

Just talking about the show business part of being a commercial musical artist.. and, well also the attire and it's style is a part of the show ... music does carry an attitude to it. and there is plenty of attitude in Haley's songs ... .. a number of pretty different attitudes in the different songs too .. bit of a chameleon. which I love but what to look like slipping into the different roles is a little tricky.. in a play you'd have costume changes.
