RE: Haley to play Lollapalooza 2012
What a nice surprise to finally make it back to my room to see a vid of a new song performed Live in Minnesotta. KCB was definitely not one I thought she would perform but seeing it now, it makes sense for the venue and Haley will really rock it on the Lollapalooza stage.
I finally got to meet Himm2 and Mrs Himm2 ( ) at their humble abode. He's quite the handyman and a very nice house.
Wheeling was bigger than I thought, and all the places we visited were spacious clean and really well kept. Calling it the 'village' of Wheeling is an understatement. It's growing but still has a lot of 'neighborhood charm' to it.
We ate lunch at Bob Chinn's, a place where Haley has said she enjoyed the 'surf and turf'. Very friendly people greeted us who know Haley and Himm2 . There are a couple of pics of Haley on the wall from when she visited there. The place is huge, and Steve (Himm2) said they held a record for 3rd most patrons served (If I remember right).
Then we went to the aquatic center where Haley worked. It's located in this large, spacious community center. There were families and small children running all over the place having a good old time. Again, very well kept, clean and very family friendly. Steve pointed out the top of the water slide where it was Haley's job to tell people when it was clear to go down the slide. Perfect place for a young person to earn money and be outdoors. I took video, but should have opted for photo's. For $9 each it's a bargain for a family to enjoy a beautiful day as the one we had today.
The Reinhart's house was only a few blocks away. We drove by it, a nice, unassuming house, in a quiet neighborhood.
Next we went to the Arlington Horse Race track where Haley held her Idol 'homecoming' performance. Again, ultra nice and clean. It was packed today despite the sweltering heat (indoors was very nicely airconditioned, thankfully). We hung around to watch a few races. I had never been to a horse racing track before. We decided to place a couple bets, and I actually won on the last race we saw, betting for the horse to win. We based the horses we chose on anything that might have a Haley tie to it. I don't remember the whole name of the horse I chose, but it had 'rock' in the name, I won a whole $9.20 on a $2 bet .
Finally, we went by Haley's high school. Like all the other places I went, Clean, large (not overly so) and obviously proud of their alumni and accomplishments displayed in a common area with comfy couches in the middle. Steve proudly showed me some of the members of the girl's basketball team that made the playoffs despite starting 1-14,
They had newspaper clippings up on the wall of Haley, but she had not yet made their 'Hall of Fame' yet, but then again, no one that was up there were from the 2000's , so maybe in time. This was where Haley greeted her hometown fans with 'Erin' her bodyguard, then cried from happiness on her Dad's shoulder.
We finally ended up back at Steve's home where we watched a few of the vids he made during Haley's homecoming. It was ridiculous how much FOX didn't show of this. Haley had quite the turn out and enthusiastic welcome. Still wonder why they had to 're film' Haley announcing "You Oughta Know", as we rewatched the actual reveal, not the one they finally showed of her reading it in the limo. . Rewatching some of the vids, visiting the places where they took place, put a nice perspective to the event.
Overall a very nice visit to Haley's hometown. We made tentative plans to meet tomorrow (joined by Babbs), my room being six blocks or so from the event gives us the option of using it as a break to what will be a long day if need be. (Walking being the best option as I was told the traffic will be ridiculous for Lolla)
Seeing these places where Haley grew up, I got a better understanding of how her environment (and close family) contributed to the upbeat, positive, life loving person she has become. Each place had a positive, family oriented and community feeling to it. Many thnx to Steve for the hospitality
(BTW gps is way overated in a big city with tall concrete buildings...what a challenge to find the drop off area for my rental car...luckily I had the foresight to mapquest directions so I finally got to where I had to go)
Next ... Lollapalooza

RE: Haley to play Lollapalooza 2012
Thanks for the recap of your day. Wheeling sounds like a together town for a village of 38,000.
Bob Chinn's was actually mentioned in Forbes magazine last month:
Quote:How Bob Chinn's Crab House Became The Highest-Grossing Restaurant In The U.S.
Bob Chinn was 59 years old when he started the business that would come to define him. The determined entrepreneur had already headed 13 businesses, all catering to the restaurant industry, when along with his daughter Marilyn, he opened the doors to Bob Chinn’s Crab House in Wheeling, Ill., 30 miles outside of Chicago in 1982. His restaurant tops our list of the nation’s highest-grossing restaurants with an estimated $24 million in annual revenue. Numbers were provided by CHD Expert and do not include alcohol sales.
In the 1970s, when he was running a Chinese restaurant with his wife’s brother, a customer came in and asked them to cater a party for 100 people. Chinn had never done catering, but he immediately agreed and put together a luau complete with grass mats and a roasted pig. The catering business took off, but three years later Chinn decided to move on leaving the business to his brother-in-law.
“When I went from one business to another I always gave it away or sold it,” says Chinn, “and within three to four years they were always out of business.”
Later, Chinn opened a Polynesian buffet with his brother and sister-in-law but became increasingly frustrated at having to negotiate with his family members over any new ideas.
“His place was so busy, but I wanted to do things my way, very creatively,” says Chinn. “His wife didn’t like that, and after three years I got tired of that talk.”
So he decided to branch out on his own with Bob Chinn’s Crab House. To ensure that things don’t go downhill at the restaurant Chinn, now 89, has decided he can’t retire (though he does spend six months out of each year in Hawaii).
“If I stop, the restaurant will collapse in a few years,” he says.
Chinn came up with the idea for Bob Chinn’s Crab House after traveling the world and tasting the best seafood from Alaska to Australia. At the time, most places were serving local seafood. Everywhere he went he talked to fishermen and suppliers, even going out on crab boats in Alaska, to persuade them to send their food to his outposts in Illinois. In Honolulu he has a company that scours the fish market every morning and overnights the best picks to Bob Chinn’s.
What started out as a 250-seat restaurant has grown to 700 seats serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bob Chinn’s is the Disneyland of seafood restaurants. Diners are shuffled through several wait stations but rarely loose their cool. Maybe it’s because they’re lubricated by Chinn’s famous Mai Tai cocktail that one reviewer said was “so strong it could strip paint off siding.” Or maybe it’s because the 300-strong staff keeps things moving. On an average day Chinn’s serves 2,500 meals. On a holiday it can serve as many as 4,500.
Or maybe it’s because of the food. Chinn has 3,000 pounds of fresh seafood flown in every day. Guests can check out the cargo bills while they wait for tables. The restaurant earns a 24 (out of 30) for food from Zagat and loyalists crow about the swordfish, of course the crabs and even the steak.
Chinn is still busy coming up with new ideas for the restaurant. He recently devised a $14.99 surf and turf meal that includes a Mai Tai, shrimp or baby scallops (“really good and cheap”) and the end cuts of USDA prime steaks that he persuaded his supplier to sell him for less than half the price.
He’s also helping two of his eight grandchildren start a business selling his Mai Tais in supermarkets using special packaging to keep the fruit juices fresh.
Despite the success of his restaurant, Chinn says has no desire to expand to more locations.
“I have the best concept, but I’m not money crazy,” he says. “I enjoy what I do.”

Great recap of a very fun day...it's almost like I was there! Oh, I guess I was!!! See you soon, Lolla awaits!...I got my walkin' shoes on! "Dancing Rock" was the Haley Horse that you got the big payout from. Silly me should have taken your lead and bet big on that one instead of "Real Power". What was I thinkin'!??

Daily Herald article:
Quote:Reinhart hopes Lollapalooza concert boosts her profile
...Reinhart's danceable, soul-infused brand of pop isn't the norm at Lollapalooza, but that's what has her so excited about performing there.
“It will give me a chance to really make my name,” she said. “The fact that I'm the first 'Idol' to do this, and that I'll be playing for people who might not be familiar with me — I feel like this is a great way to break out a bit, build my audience.”
...“I'm so thrilled about it — I still think it's crazy to see my name on a lineup that includes the Black Keys, Black Sabbath, the Shins,” she said. “As soon as I get near Grant Park (on Friday), I know I'm going to start losing control.”

And just like that me and @johnnotto got thrown into a party lol #312nights lol
312 is the Chicago area code. That tweet was made around midnight. The one below an hour earlier.
I hope they all got enough rest before today's show.
