^ Loved that duet Outcast...didn't watch the season but watched the finale. Is it me, or did Cher look like all that work has really paid off...youngest looking 67 year old I have seen, but then again there were no close ups.

I got so excited after another country winner...went out and bought a used pickup, used trailer and new shotgun!

NBC must be pretty happy with the final.The Nielsen numbers had slipped for The Voice during the latter half of the season but 15.5 million tuned in to the final results show and it was going up against the NBA Championships in that time slot.I think that's about 1 million more than Idol did for total viewers for their final.

and NO OVER SINGING Yay! I am Sick of "glory notes" and over singing which is what's turning me off from the shows.

I never cared much for the singing of Mariah, or Celine etc .... I won't expound but there are some crazy diva voiced singers that do work for me more, but it's because of the voice coupled with a unique and confidence inspiring viewpoint on things behind the voice maybe.. ... Sting has a male diva voice but it never seemed indulgent... just someone singing out their thoughts... maybe the songs help.


Anyway.. Usher didn't need to try to out sing Sting. He didn't struggle with the notes in the least bit... does Sting belt them in a power way more? yeah that works for him, but it's not the only way to interpret it and Usher did it in his more soul based way.

And Usher is what its' all about. Pathetic that Mariah couldn't get up on stage live and sing like Usher did there.... and not even his own song.

And ... I liked the singing. I'm not sure Michel has anything special musically or otherwise..... damn professional to be up there with a legend who's sold gadzillions of records arround the wold like Usher has... she didn't seem like an amateur ...but wasn't captivating to me either (a quirky person really should be captivating some-how. Michelle doesn't' seem "dorky" to me: she just strikes me as sort of plain in her bearing... but I 've heard she's endearing to others so maybe that's just personal)

Anway.. if The Voice was full of that sort of stuff this year I really missed something.

Usually contestants sing that song like it was some sort of gymnastics contest... Usher, the professional, showed how you cover it.

I Watch these shows because I like live singing. I might go listen to the studio recordings or I might listen to the live shows dependign on recordign quality etc on a case by case basis but i watch the shows because live singing has a different feeling to it , and different connection with people and sublte other things.

Do you mean Bono? Granted they both go by a single moniker and are from the UK and fronted a seminal band, so I guess you might be talking about Sting

I'm sure it's personal. But I think part of what made Michelle so endearing was watching her every week. I watched the show with general interest. I rooted for Usher's team because I like Usher..and then all of a sudden I went "wow..I love everything about Michelle." And then I realized she lives about an 40 minutes from me, and worked in North Hampton, where my grandmother grew up and a place that I adore. So...she sold herself to me.

The best part about Haley's journey was how much of a bamf she was/is. How she'd kick ass every week only to be criticized and like a tough little soldier she'd just get mad and get even. We all know Haley's a sweet girl who everyone loves to work with, but she represented a feisty confident woman.

Michelle is just a sensitive, sweet individual. Who tears up when people compliment her, go out of their way to help her, or when she talks about people she likes. She deflects any sort of compliment, and gives credit to everyone else.

And her relationship with Usher (who, IMO...was probably the biggest winner of the Voice this season, particularly if Michelle sees any sort of mainstream success with him at the helm.) made her all the more endearing.

Michelle isn't a belter. And I think she's someone who you have to listen to a little bit to appreciate it. (Although, her studio recordings are fantastic..and she immediately can be recognized as a person who actually has a good pop voice..but yet still unique and interesting.) But she emotionally connects to lyrics in ways that I finally get when people say "someone connects to the song lyrically." (I always felt Haley connected to the sounds of the song rather than the lyrics. But that could just be projection on my part, as that's how I am.)

edit: Tusk, thanks for saying that...I read it and was like "wow..I'm a terrible person..I didn't realize Sting was on that song."

Oh Usher..I think I feel the same way about him as many of the men here feel about Haley. (him and Blake Shelton also did a gorgeous duet during the "Healing in the Heartland." Usher just sounds good singing anything.)

I think this was one of the most beautiful performances I've seen on a reality singing competition. And it's a lot more subtle than a majority of songs sung.

The one thing that these shows have proven to me is that Micheal Slezak and I have that exact same musical taste.

Edit: Tusk, I really think you would have liked Amber Carrington if you had watched. She was country, but Adam Levine had her sing more pop songs. She had some fantastic performances, "Skyfall," "Sad," "Crazy," and "Stay." (Her "Sad" studio version is just..breathtaking..) Like Slezak, she was my favorite Country artist in this competition. (I thought she should have been in the finale with Danielle and Michelle.)

Obviously these people aren't Haley, Candice, Adam, or Kelly. But in Idol's 13 years, they've only had 4 of those. I don't think it's fair to hold any contestant, regardless of show, up to those standards. I've heard people say, "well none of them are as good as Candice." That's true..but Danielle is certainly a better singer than Phillip Phillips, Lee, Kris Allen, etc....

Mercfan3, I didn't get caught up in The Voice either, for a variety of reasons, but that duet between Usher and Michelle was very special, and I truly like her version of "Why." I do hope that Usher will do "right" by her and "usher" her into some post Voice opportunities.

Since I don't consider 'country' "music" (yes, I'm very picky about what I consider "music" and I don't have any qualms about it), I haven't actually heard Danielle sing, but, ya know, it doesn't take much to be better than Phillip Phillips, Lee, Kris Allen, etc. (I think you left out Scotty. On the other hand, Scotty comes across as such a good, smart kid and seems to be doing well in his openings to the Band Perry [which opens to Brad Paisley], so, in his case, I'll just throw my hands in the air -- I don't understand, but it's OK.)

Thanks for including Candice in amongst Haley, Kelly, and Adam. On the other hand, that's an extraordinary group of singers, each in her/his way, that you've listed, and, I, for one, think I understand your selection, although not necessarily how you derived at this group.

Usher and Michelle haven't confirmed anything, but they've strongly hinted at them working together. They both wanted Michelle to go home, regroup, and think about the next steps she wants to take. If their relationship was as genuine as it seemed, it's probably better she lost..because Usher will likely get her a better contract (like..on his label) and find her better management and what not.

I know Scooter Braun recently followed Michelle on twitter. (Who Usher partnered with on a label to sign Bieber, he also manages Bieber, Psy, Carly Rae Jepson...pretty good track record.) But I think it definitely depends on how mainstream Michelle wants to go, too. I think Usher can only protect her so much.

Those four, to me, where the first tier singers and performers on idol. They were the best singers from a technical standpoint and from a "feeling a song" standpoint. It was also just natural with them. IMO, had Candice, Haley, and Adam been season 2, 3, and 4 winners of Idol..they'd be as big as Kelly.

I think there's a tier below them of great singers. Jessica Sanchez, Kree Harrison, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, Pia...but those four stand out to me. And those in the second tier were just missing "something." I think there are a lot of Voice singers who are in this category. It's just The Voice didn't get lucky like Idol did, and get a special contestant in it's first season, that won.

And I didn't include Scotty because I think Scotty has a great country voice. Obviously if you don't like country, you might not care. Danielle was actually like a Combo of Lauren and Scotty. She had the performance skills of Lauren but the consistency of Scotty. But Scotty did a lot of things that were impressive to me, with his voice. For instance, his range is a lot larger than given credit for, and he was always very good at singing harmony. But if he's obviously an acquired taste. (Granted, apparently 70% of people who watch Idol had that taste..)
