Free in Hot AC Top 40! (now Top 30)

Haley had a very nice daily report today, with Free gaining 10 spins (from 660-670) and holding onto #29 on the HAC chart. Sunday big gains came from Ryan Seacrest's national radio show, playing "Free" in his HAC Top 40 on affiliated stations across the country.

The forecast for the rest of the week is a bit stormy, though. Unless Haley gets a sudden infusion of new radio spin support, she'll likely be passed by Alanis (657), Rihanna (653) and Grouplove (648) in the coming days. Also charging very hard is Phillip (516), who's gaining 20+ spins/day and will probably be on her tail by the weekend.

From above, Daughtry is slowly taking water, but at 803 is still a safe distance ahead for now. He could be reachable by the end of next week if Haley can hold her spin count. The rest are just too far out for discussion at this time.

Free has shown staying power, but the problem is it's just not selling enough to get PD's on board to push her beyond this point. She's not even in the Top 1000 overall on iTunes, so around 670-700 spins is probably the max that critical acclaim, Halien pressure and her radio promo gigs can accomplish without a big dollar national marketing campaign (which ain't gonna happen).

Hopefully, she can linger in the Top 30, or near it, for another 3-4 weeks when an official add date for Oh My! is likely to be announced. Her appearance on The View in a couple weeks should help keep her in the public eye before the big launch, which we all hope will have a huge impact a la Casey James with "Suitcase". Lalla with BoB should certainly make for a great kickoff.

A day of "ouch" for our girl on the HAC chart.

After a brutal, though not so unexpected, -12 spindrop (670-658) she was passed by Alanis (662) and Rihanna (663), and knocked down to #31 on the HAC chart. She won't last long there, either, as hard charging Grouplove is now just one spin behind (657), and will pass her tomorrow.

From above, Daughtry actually gained a few spins (809), so it appears he still may have some staying power left. From below, Phillip (522) got 11 new HAC adds yesterday, and those will start kicking in soon with big jumps in airplay. He'll likely catch/pass Haley next Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Further out, keep an eye on hard chargers Gym Class Heroes (476), Alex Care (434) and FUN (426).

On a positive front, look for Haley's spins to level off for the rest of the week. Her big plunge had more to do with the organic falloff from Ryan Seacrest's radio show boost on Sunday. "Free" is not in free fall, at least not yet, but she needs to stem the bleeding until BoB comes to the rescue.

As expected, after yesterday's steep, post-Seacrest spinloss, Free leveled off at 658 spins (no change). Also as expected, Grouplove (679) blew past Haley, dropping her a spot on the chart to #32.

Meanwhile, Daughtry had a horrific day, dropping 21 spins (788), and is now a -43 move from week prior. Not sure if this is the official bloodletting, where all stations bail and the single plummets off the charts in a matter of days, but it does show he's on his way out. From below, Phillip (536) passed Kris (533) and now sits at #33 with his sights set on Haley. All signs point to him catching her early next week. Further back, Alex Clare (444) and FUN (442) are showing healthy spincreases, and will be a factor in a couple weeks.

Bottom line, Haley needed to stem the bleeding and she did. Not expecting big changes in spincount for the rest of the week, so look for small blips up or down without any changes in chart position. This is now the holding period, and hopefully she can hang on at around 650 spins until it's BoB time.

In a holding pattern at the moment on HAC, which isn't such a bad thing. Haley at #32 had a slight spincrease (661, +3) while Alanis at #31 remained the same (663). These two have been jockeying for weeks now, and it looks like that pattern will continue. What could be interesting to see in the coming days is if Daughtry (742, -46) plummets below Haley faster than Phillip rises above (548, +12). My money is on Daughtry, because he's in a complete free fall right now.

Gym Class Heroes (487), FUN (454) and Alex Clare (450) continue to see increases in spin, and are worth continuing to keeping an eye on.

Bottom line: Not much going on, but holding steady is a good thing right now as we await BoB's chart-busting help.

On the radio, Haley's having a nice little recovery after a rough week last week. She gained 5 spins today (+5, 666), allowing her to re-pass Alanis (0, 663) and retake the #31 position on the HAC spin-chart. These two have been back-and-forth for weeks now, and I suspect that trend will continue for awhile.

Sinking like a stone (anvil?) is Daughtry (-28, 714), who will likely plummet below Haley over the weekend. Showing signs of a slowdown is Phillip (+5, 553), who's seen his spincrease really flatten out over the course of the week. We'll have to wait and see if this plateau is temporary or permanent.

The bump for Haley comes in large part to a re-energized Minneapolis. Her team smartly scheduled 2 more MN promo shows in August after they cut spins following her promo stop two weeks ago. As a result, she's now returned to the top of their rotation.

Bottom line: Things are copacetic. With national appearances on "The View" and the MLB "Celebrity All Star Game" airing next week, things should remain that way for awhile, too.

Quicky update. Haley lost a few spins today (-5, 659), while Phillip (+18, 592) is about to pass the free-falling Daughtry (-37, 621), and will likely catch Haley by Wednesday or Thursday. On a positive note, tomorrow should be a healthy spincrease for Haley, as she once again made the Rick Dees and Ryan Seacrest weekend Top 40 radio shows. I'm thinking a +12 is possible. After that, might be some tough sledding. Hopefully, her appearance on The View and the celebrity softball game will give her a boost in sales and adds for the following week.
