There is clearly a lot of talent on stage with Haley and they all seem to be push toward excellence. Haley sparkled when she hooked up with Scott and the experienced singers and musicians of PMJ, and now she is shining with her own material (and a few tasty covers). The band members seem quite good at working with Haley to bring out her best. It is special time in Haley's career. She may even surprise herself at times at just how good she can be, and the possibilities in front of her.
Tom, I get your comments about Keith and Courtney and Casey (I think). They have all been a part of Haley's journey and contributed in their own ways. Of course, Casey is an active part of Haley's world as her friend and part time musical accomplice. But Haley has her own musical course. The song "You Were There" kind of makes your point about Casey's humorous, light hearted style as opposed to things Haley has to say. Haley starts the song beautifully with "a room full of people...overwhelmed by the feeling of love...." In the middle third Casey kicks in by talking to squids and spilling his soul to a big field of dogs. The final third of the song is more than a minute of droning "You Were There." I know some folks love the song, but for me it starts out fantastic, then Haley and Casey's sensibilities seem to clash in the middle and it crashes. With respect to Keith -- he is a great keyboardist, but he seems to be still trying to find his own way. He remains pretty inexperienced, and frankly, Haley has outgrown that.

Everyone has the path they must chose for themselves, the more difficult one is deciding whether you have the commitment to take the sacrifices to find yourself or not? There were PLENTY of people who doubted Haley's decisions, but her determination to make her own path is finally coming to fruition, the path took longer, but the destination is worth it  ..that's the thing, you only learn from doing and making mistakes, as long as you sustain your focus and not get distracted.
Keith is young, it's the best time to 'find' what you're capable of, he certainly has the talent, he deserves to take a chance and make mistakes too... I'd like to see them reunite for a song or two in the future

Personally, I have strived to keep a balanced perspective toward Haley and her career over these past five years. Performing talent aside, she had a lot to learn about the music and entertainment business. A show like AI can bring fame that is well ahead of one's experience and the learning curves are going to rear their heads again and again until that experience is earned. Despite not being on the stage much for a couple years Haley had the opportunity via ole to write songs and build a catalogue of material. I always kept that in mind and we are hearing some of that now.
I was perceived as critical at times along the way, although I don't really see it that way. I suggested that Haley too often waited for things to come to her. Apparently this being a manifestation of the que sera sera philosophy. Of course, if one is as enormously gifted as Haley, odds are that good things will eventually come. And for her, they have, which probably validates that strategy in the minds of some. But I wouldn't recommend that approach to most people, unless they are content with scraps. Yet because there have not been clear roadmaps to help one navigate the changing landscape of the music business, for Haley it has probably been a good time to proceed with caution and let things unfold.
A recurring theme on YT comments is something like "Why isn't this girl more famous?" I think part of it is simple -- she wasn't visible for a couple years. Once Haley had the good fortune to get exposure and experience with PMJ, she was off to the races. And here she is. Now, as her choices continue to increase, whatever will be, will be more a product of active decisions rather than random opportunities. To me that represents Haley coming into her own. Faire son choix, sera sera.

There are some that believe what is life if not a set of random opportunities? It is the nature of our brains to see patterns, sometimes when there is none... are opportunities random or is it more a result of a particular awareness that causes one to chose a particle path?

So you understand my enthusiasm for the show...I'm sure she's great in every venue, but everything about the Solana Beach performance was the Goldilock's "Just Right" The Lighting, the performances AND especially, the audio was good enough for me to do something with .... So many songs I was bummed to not get in LA, ones I wanted badly to get like "Behave" and "Good or Bad" w/ the alternate ending.... not to mention "Black Hole Sun" was a complete swinganna miss in LA, I got in Spades in SD.
I'm pretty happy w/ what I was able to do w/ what I got
Preparing Good or Bad w/ Alternate 'break down' ending
(Something I've been wanting to geta good audio of, since the first time I heard it at SXSW)

This is one artist that you have to see live to appreciate just how good she really is. Her recordings and idol performances are top notch, but her live show is something else altogether. She is mesmerizing and her current band does an incredible job of backing her. The energy is palpable. The big man on drums is a human metronome with a heart as big as he is, with an economy of movement that has to seen to be believed. The bass player pumped the grove, the keys ranged from sweet and articulate to downright funky, and the guitarist had a pallet of never heard before tones coupled with a laid back style that was melodic, tasteful , and when turned loose, he really got down on it. I have seen and some of the best of my generation and this young woman has the goods in spades. Don't miss seeing her if you can help it.
Michael told me he is a musician and he has jammed with well known artists, Neal Young for one. He has attended many concerts and said Haley is the best he has ever seen. There are so many comments like that. Tusk was talking to a regular at Belly Up and he commented that he has watched 35 years of outstanding artists at the venue and Haley was among the best.
It was a joy and pleasure seeing all the Haliens personally most for the first time that we have met through social media. In Petaluma we made arrangements to meet Ken and knew JMT was going and was pleasantly surprised that Tom22 appeared. It was fun feeling their mutual Halien energy and discussing our favorite songs off the Better Album. In San Francisco we bumped into Cecilia, the glitter painting artist who does beautiful Haley work. In LA so many Haliens so much excitement for their first Haley headliner including Jeff, Tim Wright, Collin Moore from Dallas, Rachel, Francesca, Tusk and we met a new Halien Curtis from Alaska. They travel far and wide to bask in the radiance of Haley aurora. Sadly our last Haley blast, Belly Up. My nephew Jason and his fiancé Mindy joined us, their first Haley experience. They kind of had this thing with Tusk they seemed to mesh quite well. Of course they got a pic with Haley but they also got a picture together with Jacob Luttrell & his new fiancé Jeanette something they can always cherish. They are total Haliens after the Belly Up experience. Jason said Mindy woke up the next morning singing all of Haley's "Better" songs.
Getting to know Tusks back story ISCAT and myself would like to thank him for his many contributions to Haley and her fans along with Rachel, Himm, Miguel, John and so many others foreign and domestic. Thanks so much it's a great time to be a Halien.....
