Haley Reinhart stuns on Postmodern Jukebox cover of 'Black Hole Sun'

...But really, it’s Reinhart who's seizing the spotlight here, and deservingly so. As with her earlier PMJ cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” — recast as a torch song — she brings both a smokiness and an immense vocal dexterity to the song. Backed by a string orchestra, Reinhart articulates each note, and the effect is stunning. What’s notable is her immense sense of control, how she doesn’t force the song, allowing it instead to flow with a steady inevitability. When the song’s tempo changes and she moves into more overt jazz stylings, the effect is both surprising and delightful.

...It’s no surprise that Reinhart knocks this song out of the park: She’s been on a steady burn since her run at the “American Idol” title, including the release of “better,” a poppy and R&B-inflected new album that showcases her astounding range and phrasing, particularly on a steamy cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” She’s one of the more gifted signers out there right now, and if “Idol” didn’t make her an overnight sensation, it’s seemingly given her a more sturdy foundation to build from than it has many of the show’s other competitors, who have seemingly disappeared entirely. Hopefully, Reinhart will be with us for a long, long time.

Over the past few days BHS has picked up 1,146,258 Views on FB from the upload by PMJ. While not crazy viral like CHFIL or AATB*, the song continues to get views at a nice clip. It seems to tap into the right networks of people and it is being shared.

Oh my god! Be still my heart! This rendition of one of my favorite Soundgarden track is incredible! Haley Reinhart is just staggeringly phenomenal! Take a listen!

Good catch lovinghaleyr. It is now #6. The first clear example of FB views influencing sales of a PMJ song featuring Haley that I recall.

Haley and PMJ were a match made in heaven and both have benefited greatly from their collaboration.

But I have wondered, how much money does Haley earn by being part of PMJ?

Obviously she makes money while on tour (but probably not a lot given the size of PMJ), however I wonder how they work out the revenue for downloads on iTunes? The songwriter probably gets biggest cut (and they are all covers), but then I wonder what goes to PMJ and ultimately Haley.

PMJ is starting a new American tour soon, but no word from Haley on whether she is participating at all. And as someone noted, no new collaboration since Black Hole Sun--almost 8 months. Perhaps she is moving on from PMJ?

Maybe. She's been busy and it's possible, as you suggest, appearing in PMJ videos is not very lucrative for her (perhaps a standard flat fee). But I imagine it'll be like Idol and she won't cut her ties to PMJ altogether. Maybe she'll make another video when she's ready to promote her third album.
