Billy Joel is the Piano Man....LOL I doubt that would count as rock and roll according to midnight either even though that's the subject of the song
How about some Irish Rock and Roll (and I don't mean U2 either....no, really. I reaaaaallly don't mean U2 )
Thin Lizzy..."Jail break"

RE: Classic rock
^^Tusk, thank you! I'd agree: "I'm a Man" sounds like rock to me -- of course, there were no horns in it. Instead, the horn players are playing various percussion instruments (and doing a mighty fine job of it). I remember my favorite professor in college (the undergrad years) mentioning how good the drum solo was (my favorite professor was a drummer, although at that point he was playing vibes more than drums. I think I mentioned the solo in LDH's "Drum solos" thread.)
But, over the years, as I listen to this song again (and again), there is nothing about it that doesn't work. Everything about it comes across as an infinitely well done jam session! (I think I may have read somewhere that it was a jam session.)
Midnight, you're doing Chicago a disservice -- and, perhaps, yourself -- if you haven't really listened to its (their?) first album. "Beginnings" (my fave of that album) was the only/closest thing to "soft rock" on that LP -- and, as I listen again, I'm not sure it's "soft" (Danny Seraphine, the drummer, was a beast! Will -- the professor mentioned earlier was right about this guy).
And, it was just so musically good that to dismiss it because it wasn't "hard" or "classic" rock, is just another disservice. You have a right to your opinion, it's true, but to dismiss Chicago as "not rock" because it had a horn section, is to simply not recognize what this group of musicians was capable of.

Come on please don't say I'm doing a discredit to myself I think those are the wrong words yes this is my story and I'm sticking to it it is my opinion I'm not dismissing them and think everybody's reading this wrong so why don't we all have another sip of hundred and 50-year-old Scotch and enjoy the music
