Simon Renshaw
I merged posts about Simon Renshaw from 3+ threads to create this post. The posts it contains were made from March 2016 to December 17, 2016.
about "Simon Renshaw/ SRMGT"
Last I checked, the Dixie Chicks were the only client of his management firm that could be identified. They're preparing for their first U.S. tour in a decade.
Any chance Haley might open for them?
Quote:Whatever their history may be, when the Chicks hit the road in America in the summer of 2016 with the DCX MMXVI tour, houses will be packed. The verdict is in: "The ticket sales have been ridiculous," says Simon Renshaw, manager of the Dixie Chicks since 1994.
That's "ridiculous" as in "good." Good enough, in fact, that "we will extend the U.S. tour," Renshaw reveals.
Steve Herman, who is running point on the MMXVI tour, concurs. "Ticket sales are through the roof," Herman says. "I expect that this tour will be one of the top tours of 2016."
Billed as DCX MMXVI, the Live Nation-promoted tour begins on June 1 at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and will play more than 40 dates in the U.S. and Canada.
...Apparently, demand was bubbling. A Canadian tour in 2013 was "really successful," Renshaw says, and when the 2016 European tour was announced, social media began to heat up around the possibility of a Chicks tour of the U.S.
...But, as Renshaw points out, a Canadian tour can run coast-to-coast in about three weeks, and a U.K./European tour can hit appropriate markets in a similar amount of time. "To do America properly, it's a three- to four-month proposition," he says. "It was always about not only when do we do the U.S., but how do we do the U.S.," says Renshaw. "We're talking about three women here, with nine children between them, and trying to get everyone's schedule planned and locked into place has been very complicated for us. It's always been about the kids, the school; if we're gonna do it, the only time that makes sense is during the summer vacations."
...Renshaw says both Live Nation and AEG touring division Concerts West (promoters of the Chicks' previous headlining tours) were "very aggressive" in their offers.
After much internal debate in the Chicks camp, Herman and Live Nation ended up with the "vast majority" of dates on the tour. "We second-guessed ourselves to death, but there still was a sense out there of 'summer, the sheds, a party,'" says Renshaw, who adds that the affordability of lawn seats, which makes up two-thirds of the capacity at most amphitheaters, was appealing and offered an opportunity to reach more -- and, potentially, new -- fans.
"I felt very confident in the tour, and that our core fans would be there early on and from the beginning," Renshaw explains. "But there's a whole new generation out there of what I would call 'casual fans and interested people.' And the thing about doing the sheds is, all of a sudden you've got several hundred thousand tickets priced at $35 and under, which makes it a very affordable evening out for people that maybe haven't seen the Dixie Chicks.
...For an act that has been out of the marketplace for a decade, with two-thirds of the house at GA in the sheds, risk is typically lower than at the all-reserved, higher-priced arena level. But Renshaw notes that, given today's deal structures, when shows do well enough to get into high percentages of the door for artist versus guarantees, the act can "make the same, or even more" than in an arena.
...In America, Live Nation's sales data supports Renshaw's goal to turn on a new generation of fans to the Chicks' power as live performers. Among ticket buyers, "there is a large percentage of women 25-34 [years old], but also a good percentage in the 18-24 year-old demo," Herman says. "A lot of kids grew up listening to their parents playing Dixie Chicks."
In a further perhaps not-so-fond farewell to their contemporary country past, the Dixie Chicks summer tour will not be part of Live Nation's Mega Ticket promotion, the hugely successful "season ticket" of sorts for mainstream country acts in the amphitheaters developed by Live Nation Country president Brian O'Connell. "Brian is doing amazing stuff out there, an incredible job for Live Nation," says Renshaw. "But we wanted this tour to be a stand-alone thing.
...Musicality notwithstanding, one would be hard pressed to consider Dixie Chicks a country band these days, by any stretch. "Dixie Chicks have recorded some of the biggest-selling records of all time," Herman says, "[but] their fan base has grown much broader than country."

Scott Mantell - ICM
From a THR article
Quote:If you want to book Beyonce, you'll first have to go through Mantell. He has worked with the global superstar for eight years and was integral in putting together her most recent 132-stop Mrs. Carter Show, which became the top-grossing tour of 2013, earning north of $200 million. "I don't think there's a peak with who she is or where she's going," says Mantell of his top client. The L.A. native, who helped build ICM's international touring division from the ground up, booked clients, including Trey Songz and Lil Wayne, to play in more than 75 countries last year. He has expanded his work beyond music, too, helping such comedians as Shawn and Marlon Wayans and personalities including The Biggest Loser's Jillian Michaels take their acts abroad.

It looks like the Billboard exclusive is over and the Better video has been released to a boatload of radio stations. Lots of Twitter posts popping up with MIX this, KISS that, and STAR type stations putting in a link.
I find the Better video to be of excellent quality and it enhances the song vs the lyric video (for example). Haley sells the song in the video and it could prove a good promo piece.

After the show in Minneapolis this is Willie Ray with Pat at the edge of the stage. The piece of wood in the bottom left corner is one of the two drumsticks that Willie gave to Buzzenator since they had a nice conversation on the sidewalk outside the Varsity Theatre between the 3:30 VIP & the 7:00 show:

The Dixie Chicks performed in Philadelphia on Saturday.
December 2016:
I am not sure where this goes, but since it may be a development for 2017, I found this quote in an article about the Dixie Chicks and their manager talking about the Trump inauguration.
"“If anyone does do it, I hope that the check that they get is in the nine figures. Because it’s probably the last check they’re ever going to get,” Dixie Chicks manager Simon Renshaw told TheWrap.
Renshaw said the Dixie Chicks’ “Not Ready to Make Nice” should be the anthem of anyone asked to perform.
“In my mind that’s the theme song to the Donald Trump presidency,” Renshaw said. “If anyone wants to know what we’re singing, that’s it. It’s what we should all be singing.”
He said he knows of no top artist who would be willing to take the gig.
“No one is prepared to normalize what is going on in the country right now,” said Renshaw, whose clients include “American Idol” alum Haley Reinhart and who has represented Clay Aiken and Paulina Rubio in the past.
(Here is link to the full article from The Wrap that was posted yesterday: Dixie Chicks Article)
So in researching Mr. Renshaw, it appears he launched his own agency back in 2015 and represents Dixie Chicks and Miranda Lambert among others. Here is an article about it: Renshaw Starts New Firm
So...has anyone else heard about this? If it is true, it is very exciting for Haley to be part of new agency with some heavy hitters on the roster.

Renshaw has been Haley's Manager for a while, I believe. He is credited as "management" on the Better Album, so he has been in the picture since at least April.
Does Simon Renshaw continue to represent Haley in some way? What does he do?

He probably like organizes gigs and stuff. I can't imagine he has much control of the music aspect. Haley seems pretty independent when it comes to her music releases.

RE: Connections -- Haley's Musical Buddies
Hits Daily Double listed Haley and Anderson .Paak in their "Q1 Roundup of Acts Poised to Break Big" (ht PJ).
Anderson, aka Breezy Lovejoy, was briefly Haley's drummer. They listed him in part because he "was the most-featured artist on the Grammy-nominated Compton album." Looks like he contributed to 5 of the 15 tracks.

There are currently two PMJ troops launched, not sure which I'd prefer, seems like a decent mix of talent in each troop.... I guess the Euro troop looks to be the "A team" but the US troop has Jacob and Ariana who I really enjoy :/
