RE: Postmodern Jukebox
Quote:The KulturArena has been a six-week international open-air festival in the Jena center since 1992, focusing on music , theater and film.
PMJ will be performing at this festival in Germany in July. From an English language page promoting the festival.

This year, we celebrate a small, completely unimpressive anniversary: exactly 90 years ago, in 1927, the National Automatic Music Company from Michigan introduced their "Selective Phonograph", a huge wooden box, in which a record player plays a selection of ten shellac discs could. The jukebox was born, even if it did not get its blinking plastic look until the 1940s, and subsequently became the symbol of the swing and rock'n'roll era.
When the American jazz pianist Scott Bradlee, with his project The Postmodern Jukebox, appeals to these luminous good-mood donors, he conjures up memories of a whole epoch. And Bradlee makes ample use of it. In his jukebox, he collects dozens of high-class colleagues, all jazz musicians and instrumentalists like him, to a band in the style of the 1920s. With this group of friends and fellow musicians, he strokes through the garden of popular music, picking up a mature hit after another, and distilling - to remain in the picture - highly stimulating, swinging gem drops for the connoisseur. Hardly any song is safe from him: from Miley Cyrus to Macklemore, from Madonna to the Talking Heads, They have already given their prizes for Scott Bradlee's universal swing machine. In the US, the Postmodern Jukebox is not only a secret star, it has its own video channel on the Internet and regularly feeds over 2.5 million subscribers. But the real, the real experience are certainly their live performances. Not only are there some of the best and most outstanding jazz studios in the US on tour. In addition, one can also convince oneself again that many current musicians who are often boasted as pop stars are excellent songwriters. Because their songs have a new look, and suddenly they sound like the revered classics. She has her own video channel on the Internet and regularly feeds over 2.5 million subscribers. RE: Postmodern Jukebox
Just discovered PMJ is playing the Jazz Fest in my (and Himm2s) hometown of Rochester NY later this month on June 27. It's a VERY well received and attended event and has had some big names over the years.
Many of the concerts/shows are free but "The Headliner Series" shows are held at our Eastman Theater, home of our Philharmonic and the prestigious Eastman School of Music, and are paid events. http://rochesterjazz.com/
The PMJ show is being held there. The acoustics are, obviously, AMAZING!

I'm thinking this a "relatively" recent add. The full Fest line-up was announced Mar 21 and PMJ was on it but prior to that I had looked at their schedule and they were nowhere near Rochester.
I've been talking to "people who know people" about getting PMJ here for the Fest for about 2 years now but have REALLY amped it up to try and get Haley here. Her schedule is open when PMJ is here (and I'm assuming he's bringing out the "big guns" for an event like this) BUT I'm REALLY hoping they bring her in solo for next year's event. Hey...I can dream, can't I??? It's a PERFECT fit.
Promo for the Fest is just ramping up so I hadn't known about PMJ until today when I went to their site off of this most recent video feat> Hannah Gill, who by the way I think is TERRIFIC. Knew nothing about her but I'm now listening/watching her video "Austin" for the 3rd time.
Where is Scott finding all this young talent? She's only 19, I think. And Maris ("Jolene") is 17??? The constant influx of new talent keeps the whole concept fresh, IMO.

RE: Postmodern Jukebox
Thanks, John. I was writing that up while at work and with several interruptions it wasn't as "fluent" as intended.
I was just saying to one of my company's owners LAST WEEK (who I've turned on to Haley and PMJ, separately) that PMJ would sell out the Eastman if they came to the Fest...and voila....unbeknownst to me, here they come.
What I actually meant to say otherwise is that I've been lobbying to get Haley here, via PMJ, if that was the only viable route. But now that she has begun to establish herself on her own, and with the HR3 buzz beginning to grow, I'm trying to get the ears of people who can get her here on her own for next year.
It's a terrific week long festival with multiple indoor and outdoor venues spaced around the city.
I think the timing would be perfect, what with her coming off the win of a Grammy or 2 or...
