Musician Anthony Ray, AKA “Sir-Mix-A-Lot,” discusses the music industry
In this first clip, he says 70% of his revenue comes from licensing.

He also states that he believes the cream may not always rise to the top. That if someone is a pure artist, and doesn't want to get into social media, they may not be heard.

In this longer clip, he discusses the music industry, streaming and making money in the digital age:

"A label today is nothing more than a fat wallet and a huge staff."

"Today, if you're an artist, you are a walking-talking brand. And if you don't subscribe to that, you will not succeed."

"So social media is everything."

Cites Macklemore as an example of how to do it right.

Notes at end that with the "web" you can sell merchandise without touring.
