Quote:Jax – Jax, who will probably benefit from Joey’s elimination (I imagine many Joey fans will now switch their allegiance to either Quentin or to this fellow quirky girl), was all Jax’d up this evening. She was really in her element. Her “Piece of My Heart” performance, complete with Haley Reinhart wind machine, was cool and bluesy and snarly in the best possible way without seeming contrived,
Lyndsey has always liked Haley...

RE: American Idol 2015
I'm going to paste something I wrote and pasted at TVline
I guess I don't want to spend the time rethinking it.
(edit> I'd like to add that I think Haley expressed a natural talent using humor as a tool for expressing honest reactions while on the show)
It applies to somethings general about AI and The Voice and what it meanst to be an entertainer:
Quote:I'll add something to this although I seriously doubt anyone will read it this far down the thread a day late haha.
.
Harry Connick mentioned a performance in relation to Tyranna's Why to Fools Fall in Love.
.
.
If you watch the YouTube link you can learn quite a bit about a LOT of things. That 13yr old can write and sing a song about love with a strong on pitch voice only one of them.
.
You also can see how a musical guest on live TV shows had learned to dance a bit as part of the trade of being a singer.
.
Important to this Quentin reaction, you learn from the clip that a stage entertainer must also be a comedian, ready for counter quips, perhaps pre-meditated and rehearsed in the YouTube clip, but what should be expected of all people taking a mic up on stage.
.
True point that Quentin didn't have the experience in that, yet the 13 year old in the video must have been a Quick study. This is the sort of thing that can be taught to baseball players etc, some of it is rehearsed, some is Natural though.
.
Watch the week before's Kelly Clarkson based realitycheck episode and you'll see how Kelly bantered humorously with Harry, even putting Harry in place from asserting his parity in stardom with the superstar by finding room to call him a "crap-Dad"
.
Sure that stuff comes with years of experience, but "telling the truth" isn't the point, making a point with humor is what performers must learn to do.
.
For that matter, if you go watch Kelly back in season one, one of her big strengths beyond singing was her way of slightly diffuseing the lush praise with bats of her eyelids and little funny squeaks etc. She was a budding natural then and THAT is part of what makes a star entertainer(beyond being entertaining when said I also think that sense of humor and awareness comes across in performing songs themselves.
.
OK , no one read that. But I had fun saying it.

Tom, Kelly was a natural, alright, but I'm not so sure she was a "budding" natural on AI. A year/year and a half ago, I came across "Kelly's AI Journey" or something like that, and watched her audition. In the course of the audition, she switches places with Randy, so Randy can "audition." Kelly exudes personality and confidence in an irresistible way.
So, now that's she's a parent, she can easily make an off the cuff remark like "you're a crap dad." (She might have done so just as easily before she became a mom.)
