Dave surely checked out some of Haley's performances beforehand. If he was apprehensive, it was probably due to the lack of a rehearsal with his group.

I did think it was kinda odd how David D started 'Night and Day' on the stage with Haley (not singing, just dancing) and then sat down. With the lack of rehearsal time, do you think he was ready to jump in if she struggled?

I wondered that too until I was making the video, I remembered that was the one song they tried to rehearse to. If you listen to the beginning of their arrangement of Night and Day, it's different from the way it normally starts. I think Dave was there to give Haley the cue for when to start. He left the stage after the extra musical interlude, then went as the song usually goes. I could be wrong though..

Quite a collection. Haley's dress, the natural background and the bokeh on Greg Williams' photographs makes for a peaceful, tranquil scene.

Maybe, a little to do with lack of rehearsal time, but Haley on video is not the same as Haley live. Many of us who were there got the impression he was not expecting the quality of performance they got from her.

Honestly, most everybody who've heard Haley live for the first time are Usually not expecting how much better she is live

It does seems he was up there to help her with timing and such. It also appeared to me she was planning to end at abouit 3:05 but the band kept going and she moved right into a little scatting. But while Dave was up there it was distracting.

Haley at her scatting finest! and I love the reactions of all around her...she even made that curly dark haired lady shut up for a few minutes to appreciate what Haley was doing!

I'll be honest-I'm not normally a huge fan of scat singing.Too often to me, it can be overdone or show-offy but Haley did some very interesting things here and it was nice hearing the crowd appreciate that.I'm really impressed with how mature she's sounding as a jazz singer.

He was definitely cueing her entrances, and wasn't at all subtle about it.

Thanks for all of these recordings, Tusk. Gee Baby - she's so good at this song. I was wishing she could do her trumpet hand like she started to do, but the mic/speaker system didn't approve I guess. Dave (?) was a bit of a nervous nellie in his little blue suit - he didn't realize he had a true pro there at the beginning I think.

My thought on why she didn't go w/ the 'hand trumpet' was maybe she quickly thought it might not be 'appropriate' with a 'big band' setting, especially that there was already a brass section there?

I didn't hear any distortion to indicate that it was because it was for equipment reasons
