Unreal evening at the Troubadour with Haley Reinhart. I loved performing for such a diverse audience of older & younger, amazing fans. I received maybe some of the BEST compliments of my life after this show, with people likening my performance to David Bowie and Freddie Mercury - WOAH, THANK YOU!!

The audio you hear, IMO is better than what I might have gotten from the Board Audio because my recording wasn't obstructed by the crowd noise, Haley and the band came in clear, surprisingly so, I did not expect it to sound this good. The crowd included in the recording is something you might not get w/ board audio, a few times Haley had the crowd sing w/ her, especially fun when she got half the crowd singing one line, then the other half singing another. On Light My Fire, you can hear fans singing along. I did edit it a bit, brought up Haley, reduced some of the muffled sound. The Zoom recorder finally came through after failing so many times for me to get decent audio. I was in the balcony so that meant I'd have less ambient sound and the Troubadour staff was very nice, no one chatting near me. Also what makes the video is Babbs' great close up video. Six plus years in the making....

Wait until you hear Light My Fire... it is amazing. I still have laptop issues, for some reason, it's saying my disc is full now, even thought my memory shows I have 2+ terrabytes left. So I'll have to wait to get home to do it.

Bad news is, I'm not sure what videos I'll be able to post on my channel, I asked if I could post Last Kiss Goodbye and they didn't think I could.

We're entering a new era...

Haley Reinhart Premieres New Song, Duets with Catie Turner (VIDEO)

When American Idol 2018 contestant Catie Turner performed her Amy Winehouse inspired cover of “Oops I Did it Again” for Top 7 Songs night, I wrote, “Postmodern Jukebox is gonna get Catie on speed dial, very soon.”

AND WELP. It was Season 10 singer Haley Reinhart who invited Catie to perform “Oops” with her and PMJ’s band leader Scott Bradlee at the Troubadour Thursday night (June 21). Check out the jazzy performance featuring Hailey and Catie on vocals, with Scott on keys here. Now that Catie is definitely on Bradlee’s radar, I patiently await PMJ’s inevitable Youtube collaboration with the young singer....

An interesting note about LMF, Haley said they're looking into putting it up for streaming since only people who got the Target WTS CD have it. It probably has to do w/ how long Target has the rights to the exclusivity.

Also, Alex Frank, formerly of the No Vacancy Orchestra also performed w/ Haley. He said that the Jeff Goldblum album w/ he and Haley on it, is expected to come out in December (Dave Damiani and his keyboard player were there also, someone told me they heard Alex is definitely no longer w/ DD's orchestra, he's moved on to Goldblum and probably suggested Haley to Jeff)

I fought to keep Robby’s Haley compliment at end of the vide, it was already longer than most ( it has 2 solos). I argued it’s significance to Haley and her career even if symbolic, is more important than a video being too long. I’m glad they agreed

When you think of a venue like @thetroubadour... You think about legends like @thedoors simply hangin’ out there and in turn, making it THE hippest spot to be in LA back in the 60’s and so on... I’m extremely honored Robby Krieger blessed the stage last Thursday at my show to play the song he wrote when he was 19 years young called... Saying she sounded "a lot better tonight" didn't strike me as the strongest compliment, but changing the key doesn't seem like a small thing for the song's creator given this...

As for “Light My Fire"...Krieger also elaborates on the song’s opening, which uses numerous chords that were uncommon in rock and roll. “I said, ‘Those poor chords, nobody ever uses them,’” he explains before demonstrating how to play it.

This is interesting. LA Times, 1991:

...the other Doors tried to play on without Morrison. But without its spiritual center, the group disbanded in 1972, with each member pursuing a different musical direction.

Krieger chose jazz. He had always been influenced by it, but now decided to concentrate on it seriously. Ironically, it took The Doors' demise to open his musical mind...

"I had taken it for granted that rock 'n' roll was all there was to music," Krieger said. "I had never considered myself a real musician. But I started practicing over the next five years, and I realized playing jazz, other than sex, is one of the only ways to get off in this world."

Said Sugerman: "Robby's grown tremendously as a musician, which should be his first concern. He has developed his own technique."

Along with Densmore, Krieger formed the Butts Band in 1972. They produced two albums, playing a lot of reggae. He blames inadequate promotion by the record companies for their poor sales.

The record companies "were caught off guard by the jazz and reggae," he said. "People like to put you in a box. I was never going to make it as big as The Doors again."

In all his post-Doors musical endeavors, Krieger has missed collaborating with a singer. Finally, last year, he teamed with former Animals leader Eric Burdon. They toured the country with moderate success.

"Eric has a great voice," Krieger said. "And the Animals were similar to us. We used to look up to them a lot."

While touring, Krieger also renewed his affection for his past. He used to resent it when the audience, unfulfilled by his new material, pleaded for him to play old Doors songs. But, as time evolved, he grew to cherish those requests.

"I learned that it wasn't a hindrance," he said. "It is my privilege to play them, and have them be my songs."

Greg Williams Photos. I was just talking to Greg... I think it's possible we were the only ones w/ passes that night. I figured there would be tons of LA photographers at a Haley show at the Troubadour, I follow a number of them, and I can't really recall if I saw any other people w/ large lens cameras.....

Monika was there, she came up to the right of my position and all she had was an iPad. On my videos, you can see 3 rows deep everyone again no one w/ a large lesn camera. TBH I decided to go w/ the more nimble point and shoot to the DSLR because the DSLR lenses take a mini second to focus, while most of the time you can zoom in and out worry free with the point and shoot Canon. .

Greg and I were both on the balcony and I don't recall seeing any up there. Really, really very odd. Regardless, I've seen some Greg's photos and they're among his best, he's sent a bunch to Haley
