RE: Finding her own way
Quote:...based on everything I have read, the only real way a musician makes a living is to tour and sell merchandise...In this digital world, songs are so easily copied that you can’t count on much from that.
There is one other way: from songwriting royalties.
Haley's had a taste of this. More than most musicians.
My concern is as she continues to explore new directions creatively will her work be less accessible to the mainstream and less likely to be picked up than the songs from Listen Up!.
I think as long as she picks universal themes and grounds the music with traditional constructs and good songwriting, her voice will ensure future placements.
If she wants to also play around with new constructs, and I think she does, she may hit on something that's more of the moment that turns out huge.

OK guys,I'm agree with all your opinions because most of one time I want
write a post about the Haley's career but I never can write well what I
think about. The long post of Miguel and RMD are very clear for me but I
know how much smart is Haley then if she is taking her time for release a
movement surely have a reason for that.I believe in H.E.R.don't matter how
much time she need to move.

RE: Finding her own way
I am a patient person. I will listen to and buy what ever she puts out, and "making it big" isn't a big deal to me, as long as I can get a new song or even a new cover on my iPod every so often. I only wish she was more outgoing with the tweets and posts, this trait of hers is what leads me to think maybe she doesn't want to be a public figure. Some little tidbit every day to keep her fans engaged - even just a hello world message. Also, I know you have to sell your soul and kiss the butt of some of the worst people in the world to make it "big", and I don't know if she's the type to do that. I couldn't and I just feel she couldn't, rub up against some of the monsters that rule the entertainment industry. I have faith in Haley too, I just hope and pray she continues to put out new music, because in the end that's what we all fell in love with: Her incredible voice.

RE: Finding her own way
Haley was more active on Twitter in 2013 than 2012. She tweeted fairly often for long periods, posted to Instagram pretty consistently and occasionally offered up Vine videos.
People may be frustrated now because she has teased new music and news but hasn't said much since the "Funky-ass reality project" post a couple of weeks ago. They're starting to grow vocal about it.
Her absence could be because she can't give people what they want. She may be working on it but things are taking longer than she planned or she could be waiting on something to happen herself.
Even in this quiet period though, I have noticed she is following people. I only know this because they speak up to thank her. They are usually people who have mentioned her previously. So she is monitoring Twitter.
Where she could really do better is Facebook. That was poorly utilized by Chiara/mgmt and now it seems abandoned altogether. There are people who follow her there who don't follow her on Twitter or Instagram.
Tusk pointed out on Twitter that she should have a website. I agree.
I wonder if HaleyReinhart.com is in no-man's land. Interscope tech got the word to pull the plug. But did they try to give it back to her? Possibly not. Or possibly they did and personnel changes at Haley's management company led to an inquiry going unanswered.
If Interscope still has control of the domain, it should be pursued. Since Haley's name is trademarked she might be able to use this course of action:
http://www.icann.org/en/help/dispute-resolution
Quote:Trademark Infringement
If you feel someone is using your trademark in a domain name
You may wish to consult an attorney in private practice who deals with intellectual property law to discuss available options. ICANN cannot give legal advice.
Also, the UDRP (Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy) allows trademark and service mark holders to arbitrate certain claims against a domain name registrant before an approved dispute resolution service provider. For information about ICANN's Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), please see http://www.icann.org/en/help/dndr/udrp.
For a list of approved UDRP dispute resolution service providers, see http://www.icann.org/en/help/dndr/udrp/providers.
Haley might have signed something in her contract that gave them the right to use her name. But if she started the official dispute process I can't imagine Interscope putting up a fight as they don't have a use for the name.

RE: Finding her own way
Love reading all the thoughtful posts. I have faith that Haley has a plan & things will happen in due time. IA writing for others is a way to make money and get her name out there as well. More connections. Her voice is better than almost everybody. I mean it. Just listening to Precious from the Caley Stage it is proof of that. That is a tough song--her ear is incredible. And it's all effortless for her.
I would also love to see her tour. I guess if she played an instrument it would be easier--cause she could do solo shows. I do think Caley should do a mini tour maybe in the spring. Preferably on the east coast--ha. But, really she has never been here. Go to some populated cities, Boston, NYC, Philly, DC/Baltimore/No VA--(one of the 3) and so on. Do same thing on west coast.
As far as social media & how artists are getting themselves out there--this is something kind of interesting I came across. I meant to post it in the Casey thread a bit back--but didn't get around to it yet. Casey was in NYC before he went to Ethiopia. I was wondering why he was there. Turns out he was playing for this TS Music Catalog Show
Here is a little vid about this organization-another avenue for artists to get their music out there
Their website http://tsmusiccatalog.com/
I'm sure Haley knows about it since Casey seems to be getting involved with this in some way

RE: Finding her own way
I have really enjoyed reading everyone's comments, and agree with all of you. I am here for the long haul too, and will wait patiently (or impatiently) to find out what's next in Haley's musical journey!!

I have often wondered if there is something preventing Haley from doing something like this or joining a subscription service where we pay to help support her. Is it in a contract with her management company, or was it from Interscope that she can't tour or do certain things for a period of time after they dropped her?

Miguel, Haley told me last August at "Halien headquarters" that she now owns her domain name, and seemed happy and relieved to tell me that. I asked her about a website, and she said she would be working on it in the near future, but I didn't push any further. Maybe she was hoping a new label would put it together for her.....

RE: Finding her own way
Casey's haberdasher is a little redundant, lol, when it comes to fashion they are definitely not Caley. Don't know why I posted that here, or even posted it at all????
